New Car Coming Soon

Tell me if im going to make the right choice. I test drove several cars VW R32, Nissan 350Z, M Roadster, and an EVO VIII. By far the EVO made me feel like I was in heaven. The questions I have are what's the typical insurance rates for a 18yr old In college making 10hr no tickets no accidents. And will I be satisfied with this car vs a RSX Type-S or a Subaru STI. Peace

No pun intended but I think you need more than 10 dollars an hour to pay for the EVO and keep up with it's maintence...plus insurance and GAS! I know GAS here in Hawaii is crazy, as well as California because I use to live there. But if you live in neither of those places kudos to you. Also in Cali they have **** 91 octane gas. Here in Hawaii it's 93, but the mark up is high here. Anways, you're 18 years old, I think a good car to get is a good tuner car like the MR2 SW20 with a 3SGTE engine...the insurance wont be as expensive. Please note, that this is just a suggestion and my opinion of why he/she should get something else. Get a used car bottom line, you can pay it off in a couple of years, and MOST important have a SOCIAL LIFE while you're still young. You don't want to be working for Mitsubishi for the next 5-7 years of your life to pay off an EVO. Sorry for being so blunt, but your time will come when your old enough to buy the car of your dreams. You're still young, and buying a SUPER CAR with high maintence is a commitment you can't dig yourself into. Just my two cents. If you want to tune a car to go fast in drag, get a 89-90 Mirage and pay it off in a few months...usually only cost 2k at most; get another 3-4k together to swap a 4g63T off an Eclipse and you should be set to go fast in a straight line. If you wanna go side ways, get a 84-86 Corolla GTS, but god forbid the asking price of people that already tuned them; which is usually 5k-8k. Or get a 240 SX, or a MR2 SW20. All really good platforms. If you still itching for an AWD turbo car try and look for a Celica All Trac or a Mazda 323 GTX, both very nice and rare car, but very tune-able. Other than that, I'm happy that we have Mitsu fans out there !!!

uh...

Thanks for the reply not what I wanted to hear but Im still going to get an EVO. Thanks anyways its not no 8 dollar burger king job. Its a good enough job to get me an evo or an STI. But anyways i still want to know insurance prices its not like im putting 1000k down on this car either. If a 16yr old can afford a E46 M3 which is a 50K car then I think I can afford an Evo. Peace

If I made ten dollars an hour I would not be looking at any of the cars on your list. But if you want to be a slave to your car for the next five years then the Evo is a good car to be a slave too. Expect to pay about a thousand a month to keep the Evo on the road. And realize that there has been more than one 18 yr old on here who had to sell their Evo after they got their first speeding ticket. Good luck with your decision.

Insurance will depend on many factors including driving record, age, state,....

Do a search. Good luck.

Insurance companies differ in pricing. The rates also differ compared to your zip code. The rates differ depending on number of tickets too. The only way to get a valid answer to your question would be to ring round some insurance companies and get some quotes. I would imagine you will be looking at $3-4K a year though, maybe even more. Probably the best idea would be to just go on your parent's policy though. I'm 34 and I still pay just over $1K a year for full coverage with 2 cars and a house all with the same company. My driving record is spotless too.

i am about 1200 a yr, but i am not 18, nor any accidents. i also have multiple cars.

good luck with affording the car. expect the tires to last about a year (@ $212 at tire rack, not installed, nor balanced, etc). oil changes are $70+ bucks. clutches are about a 1k-1200. not to mention gas at 16-18 mpg. maintenance is pricey for the car, differential oil changes, etc etc.

good luck.

Good luck gettin that evo man. I'm in the same boat as you and I'm definitely gonna get one within a year.

What is your insurance now? You need to base it off that depending on the car you drive. I am 18 driving a 92 civic with a clean record and on my parent's plan which has currently 5 cars and a house. My car was only $5k when we bought it and I'm payin $1900/ 6 months!

For all the haters, if you are makin $10/hr and working full time all year round, that is plenty of money to haul in an Evo, especially if your parents are helpin you out. I plan on doing the same thing, cept my parents will pay for most of the car since the Govt gave me a co-op and is payin college tuition. I'll be stuck with the insurance, but 10 bucks an hour, 40 hours a week is like 1400 a month after taxes, plenty to pay off an evo and insurance since you hardly have any other expenses.

But anyway, don't settle for anything less than the Evo. I'd rather be a slave to an Evo than have an RSX with money left over.

ran the insurance thru your parents in that way it will be cheaper because of their age.

I was 17 when I got my WRX and managed everything excellently. The 350Z was also easy to balance. When I had the Subaru I paid about $6,000 a year for insurance but that was due to 6 tickets. But now that they worn off (knock on wood) the price has gone donwn A LOT! I will be getting an EVO around Oct or Nov. BUt like it has been said insurance will differ. I would have one of your parents finance and just pay them.

Oh and stick with the EVO. Dont go with the 350Z they are way to small which is why i traded it in. I thought I could get used to it but I soon found I couldn't.

Ok first of all...you're not planning to put down 1000k (One Million Dollars) on a 30k car. Yes I love my evo but if I had that type of money to spend on a car it would not be my first choice.

16 yr old with a E46, hmmm..... Not on their own, sorry!

And yes you should make more than $10.00 an hour to be considering an evo, unless your name is Paris...

I dont know why the negative comments are people just mad cause im 18 and considering a 30k car well suck it up if I want the car I can definitly get it. The best thing about this thread is come December Ill prove whoever doubts me wrong.
