HELP: frustrated newbie

First of all, hello everyone I've been visiting the forum for quite awhile but I believe this is my first post.
Well, I bought my 04' Evo about 2 weeks ago, brand new, and I love the car. I've put about 500 miles on it and try to drive it every chance I get.
I've been babying the car , seldom revving the engine above 4K rpm and avoiding highway cruising. The car has been great (as any brand new car should be) until last couple miles. While I was driving around the town, I noticed a significant decrease in clutch and gas pedal pressure (not sure this is right to say it). In other words, they feel lighter especially the clutch and does not seem to be as grabby. However this is not the major concern. The car or the engine is making a whining noise under accelaration in 1st and 2nd gear.
And this frustrates me because:

1)I am pretty much mechanically ignorant about cars.
2)Although this is not my first manual tranny car, my experience with manual transmission is relatively short and am unsure if my driving style is causing trouble.
3)The nightmare stories about Mitsu dealers voiding warranties on clutches.

I'm sure there are plenty of you who are more knowledgble about Evo and cars in general than I am. Please help me on this...

Thank you,
BK

Congrats on the EVO!

First, don't worry about mitsubishi voiding your warranty. Unless you have aftermarket parts installed they don't really have any reason to try and void the warranty.

Second, EVOs tend to have more mechanical noise while driving than other cars mostly due to the AWD. Some EVOs make more noise than others. The whining noise you hear could be normal (could it be the turbo spooling?), but if the whine seems to be new it might be worth having the dealer check it out.

Third, If the clutch and gas pedal feel has changed significantly it may be a good idea to ask the dealer check it out. If just for piece of mind.

good luck!

Hey congrats. When i picked up my evo new with about 4 miles on it, it had a constant piercing whine between 3-5k in any gear. on the highway it was the worst as 55-75mph cruising speeds fall in this rpm range.

I had never had an AWD car before and was reassured by many people that these cars are loud and dealt with it for about 8-9 months when another problem brought me to the dealer. On a limb I told the dealer about this issue as well. They told me a seal was broken where the axle exits the transfer case, thus leaking oil, running low and whining.

Thet replaced the TC. and when I got my car back I can not even describe the new car like difference. It is now just mechanical loud, as I would expect from an AWD car, not driving me *&%# nuts loud !

All taken care of under warrenty, transfer case issues are well documented here on this site... search "transfer case", give your dealer the benifit of the doubt and goodluck!
