Car won't start..
My car has been virtually problem free since I have had it. Out of nowhere, I try and start it yesterday and it was really struggling. It would go up a few hundred rpms and then die. I would try again and it would just die. I gave it gas and held the rpms to 2000, and if I let go the car shuts off.
So I finally disconnect the battery to see if I can clear anything. I come back to me car and it starts up fine, no issues at all. I go for the rest of the day with it going good. This morning, I try and start it up again and it does the same thing. Everything seems fine engine-wise and there aren't any codes. What should I look for specifically? The car has all the boltons and meth and has never had issues. Lol I need my car to last longer than a few hrs. Please point me in the right direction. Thanks |
Have you ever changed your spark plugs?
Maybe your fuel pump is taking a crap
Would my car run after the ecu is reset if it had these problems? Its just weird how it will start after I reset the computer. It drove fine afterwards too.
Plugs were changed 20-25,000 miles ago. Could it be time for another set?
Yeah, I would change them. Did you put in copper or iridium plugs?
EDIT: I just noticed you are running alky too. High boost and alky fouls plugs fast. They must be iridium for them to last as long as they did. Change them to Bpr8es and change them out every oil change. |
I would suggest plugs as well, also maybe a real badly clogged fuel filter?
I believe I had the br8es, which are copper. Gonna go buy some now and check anything else underneath the hood. Thanks
I swapped plugs and gapped them around .023. The car will idle at 300rpms for a few seconds and then just die. I gave it gas and it died again right after. Reseting the computer did nothing this time. No codes or anything that looks unusual.
i'm not saying this is the problem but aren't you supposed to use iridium plugs?
what were your old plugs gapped to? are you old plugs also bpr8es?
the idler on your throttle body might be screwed up. that would mess up your idle pretty badly.

Did you use a scanner the check your codes beacuase not every code will throw the light on. Also, alot of codes use what is called two-trip logic, meaning you must have two complete trips (two complete key cycles, with mileage driven in between) before a code will set, in a scanner these will be seen as "pending codes". So you may have codes, but you won't be able to tell unless you use an OBD scanner. Even so, it sounds like you have a fuel issue, alot of fuel pumps will work after cold soaks, then shut off when trying to keep up with the engine fuel pressure demand while running. Just my .02.
