Lancer windshield same as the evo's?
 

Just wondering if a lancer windshield will fit the evo? I guess they are different part numbers but just trying to confirm ;)

I wanted to get an OEM one from the junk yard. Mine is getting pretty bad. thanks guys.

Evo is different (thinner) but Lancer will fit.

no its not lol... everything has to be DOT spec and you can't have "thinner" glass. There is a different in OEM to aftermarket but that only reflects quality. Ala float glass which is the top of quality (OEM) while the lower end is sold in chunks to the Chinese companies.

All auto glass windshields are 2 layers laminated unless it's an acoustic interlayer glass which is usually on luxury vehicles or prius'


IMO, just go get an aftermarket PPG or Pilkington glass, it will be cheaper yet it's a nice float glass. I do auto glass for a living so ya....


edit: Yes all lancer shields should be the same dimensions and should be the part numbers.

The only thinner glass is on the RS rear glass, reduces weight.

Lancer windshields fit, just as stated above.

I repeat, the Evo windshield is thinner.

I stone broke my Evo 8 windshield and I ordered a new Evo windshield from Mitsu, opened and pulled it out of the box. It is thin. The glass guy came to install it. He said, "Wow, this is thin glass."

So, yeah it is thinner. Most people won't spend the extra money and go for the regular Lancer glass.

Good to know in case i ever need to replace mine.

Yes the Lancer ES,LS,OZ and Evolution use nearly identical windshields which are interchangeable. The Evo one is just slightly lighter.

I just had my windscreen change in September last year, & was convince, they just put on the same one as the lancer.

I thought they are the same & didn't question too much, if they use one specifically for the evo or just the standard lancer...

Its the same ****. If anything most OEM and float glass I install seems to be heavier than the cheaper shiet. LOF, PPG , PLK, ULN are examples of OE brand glass. Buy a good OE brand without the ":mitsu:" symbol and save some cash... Examples of cheap **** i.e FYG, XYG... any Chinese brand glass. The only advantage you will get is CLARITY, which you may only be able to tell if you have two windshields up against each other.

It should not be thinner. I've done numerous lancers and a Evo 8 and an Evo X before, never noticed a difference. When it's time for me to replace my windshield i'll even take pictures and weigh both shields before. The only time it will be thicker if it's a defect glass (always cheap glass) and the Chinese manufacturer totally screwed up the shield.

Or you can be a JDM/Brand whore and spend extra money for the same glass but with an extra symbol on it lol..

Personally the guy who replaced the dudes windshield above must have been a n00b and I would have told him to get the F out of my driveway and to NEVER touch my glass. Auto glass is totally unregulated and is 90% full of morons and unqualified f**ks who don't even know what DOW certified is let alone have proper tools.

if you get the oem glass and have it installed at the dealership, take about $700 with you. i just had mine replaced at the end of november

im not questioning SavEVOIX's professional experience but being on evolutionm for last 7 years, i have heard/read about "lighter" glass on evo's few times, although it could have been referring to lancer designs in general. im only saying these people arent' loosing their minds talking about this "magical" glass ... lol :)

yes it is lol... kevind from evolution dynamics has been over this. there is a weight difference between evo glass and a regular lancer. evo glass is lighter but a lot more expensive. im going to have to go with that he says seeing how he has actually weighed both windshields.

so to answer op's question: no they are not the same but they will fit
