Why are Evos so much harder to find than STi's?
I creep on CraigsList, ebay, dealers, and the respective forums and finding an Evo 8 or 9 for sale (at least in the Pittsburgh area) is damn tough. Yet I see a ton of WRX's and STi's for sale constantly. Are Evos just more lovable and the owners really want to hang on to them?

Exactly, once you get your hands on one. You won't want to let it go.

every person i know who has bought an Sti (all through college and in DC so many friends with Sti/wrx) and has started seriously modding there car and pushing the boost regret buying an sti and say they should have bought an evo because of the different response to mods (in a good way).
and yes, ppl dont want to let them go. ive DD'd my evo for over 5 yrs, and unless I could afford a gtr or gt3 rs, i wouldnt and wont sell the evo. too much fun even through DC traffic. compared to your Si (which i think is still a fun @ss car to drive) the difference is night an day. plenty of evos on the RIGHT side of your state (pun intended). good luck if in fact your searching. cheers |
Because there are far more WRX/STIs produced than Evos. Evos actually have fairly low production numbers comparatively. STIs are more of the "fad" car.
Also good luck finding a good one in our area, I had to go all the way to North Carolina to get mine. Well worth it. |
because STi 2.5 engines are garbage, you have to check your oil every day other wise there goes your cylinder 4 :)
|
Took me three tries to get one - one i backed out on, two that sellers backed out of selling at the last minute as they did not want to sell them after all. I hate to say this, but the IX I just picked up was from a very nice guy near Pittsburgh :(

So far the posts are so true. I would go to the edge of the world if it meant keeping my evo. I have never had more fun driving a car in my life, to date.

Maybe because the moment you stop to choose between an EVO or an STI the other guy just walked out with his first EVO....{thumbup}:mitsu:

I hate how the boxer motor sounds like a 4 or 6 cylinder motor that has a missing or blown cylinder. I cannot express how much it bothers me.... BUT I will admit that when they are built correctly and properly they are impressive. |

Maybe it depends on the area. In my area there are only a handful of used wrx/sti's. And the used ones are going for almost the price of new and people are actually buying them. If you want a new one there is a 4 month wait.
There arent a whole lot of Evo's though either, however there are more than the wrx/sti. Right now about 4 used Evo's on craigslist and about 4 new ones between 3 dealerships. But Im in Texas. We dont get snow and an AWD is not important. Although it should be, because people cant drive for chit in the rain around here |
