I'm not sure if this has been asked before, and I couldn't find any threads when I searched, so I'll ask. If its been asked before, just point me to the proper thread.

Anyway, I sold my Eclipse GS-T, and I'm looking to buy an Evolution. There's a good 2-4k dollar difference in prices between the VIIIs and IXs around me, and I'm basically wondering if its worth the extra few thousand dollars for a IX. I know it has more power at the wheels and all the upgrades over the VIII that Mitsu added - but I just want to know if its that much better of a car.

get the 8. from what ive seen( and im a newb) the non mivec versions are holding the records right now and are more capable. although the 9 is a newer car and might have less miles so thats also something to consider when purchasing

 

9's make more power with the same bolt on's. Really depends on what you want out of the car.

 

ix... depends on what your goals are but "records" shouldn't be your reason for choosing the car. u can do more with a ix as far as tuning goes. mivec really helps out with turbo lag. theres also a bunch of little things that make the two different... i.e. the seats, steering wheel, depending on the year ACD vs. no ACD. Good luck.

 

I don't plan on going too far mod-wise, so I'm much more concerned with stock differences. Does the ACD make that much of a difference? And comparing the two cars is allowing for the same mileage for both cars.

 

i own both my evo 8 is a drag car
and my 9 is my daily driver both cars when stock are a blast!!!
as far as prefrence i like the 8 i guess cause of the fact i renched on it more then the 9

 

As someone mentioned, it depends how much you have to spend, and what your goal is. since u r not looking to mod heavily, and it doesnt seem like u have a deep pocket, then i think u r better off finding a lower mileage car, that wasnt abused too much (at least u try to make sure thats the case, cause ultimately u will never know). so your concern shoudlnt necessarily be 8 vs. 9, but rather the miles, and overall condition. so, start small - a less expensive Evo 8 perhaps. drive it, learn from it. maybe u will realize an Evo isnt for u. or perhaps u will love it so much (as most of us do), u will want to upgrade one day to a IX, or X.

that being said, if u do have the extra funds that a IX will require, then, in my opinion, the IX is worth the premium. 9's do make more power with the same bolt on's. they also have a different interior which in my opinion is much nicer. (btw ACD comes on 8's as well, depending on year)

 

get the best value in terms of mileage to the dollar...both cars are great. The IX is newer, but I like the VIII front bumper better...but seriously, get whats the best value they are both great.

 

05 or 06

I chose 06 for many reasons that are un-record related. I love the mivec. I have never driven a modded VIII, so ya. I like the IX interior and wheels much more than the VIII.

 

IX that MIVEC really helps, also people are forgetting the LARGER Turbo, the IX turbo alone is worth the cost of entry then of course the MIVEC.


VIII is cheaper so if you wana do it on the cheap get the VIII

 

if u were about to spend $1500 on similiar mods for both the viii and the ix, then the ix will definitly make more power. also its teh last true 4g63 ever made goodluck with what u decide on!

 

EASY! Evo 9! It gone much more then evo 8.

 

The 9 has a front LSD, while the 8 has an open front diff.

I just spent 1050 on a front LSD for my 8.

 

i would say if you can find a 9 in your price range go for it. it not try to get an 05 8, which has a few of the new features from the 09, acd, 10.5 hotside, etc.

thats the route i went, 05 was a much better deal.

 

04+ RS and 05+ all models have front LSD.
