ETS 3inch Install

I just installed the 3 inch FMIC. It was a smooth easy install. Only question I have is when my car is in boost, I hear a whistle type noise. Do people have a different harmonic of boost build when they upgrade their fmic's? I'm running 23pds.

I don't feel boost loss, if anything I feel stronger. Great piece of work ETS!

possibly check for a small leak? leak test needed, maybe?

No, you shouldn't have a change in harmonics.

perhaps there is leak somewhere in the hose fittings into and out of the ETS fmic? I believe it's coming from the drivers side. the sound is just a tad louder and higher pitched then the stock. I assumed it would be due to the change in air flow due to ETS fmic design over stock.

It could be a possible boost leak. On my old Greddy I had the same problem and it turned out it was because the coupler on the driver side wasn't on secure enough.

I would do a leak down test and check for leaks. Let us know!

Thanks,

Michael

The only thing you changed out was the FMIC? You didn't disconnect anything esle? I accidently flipped my DV the opposite way and it was loud as ****. good luck.

Hey Mike,

I went ahead and rechecked the couplings and re fastened everything. When I hit boost I still get a audible whistle/whoosh type sound.

One thing i noticed was that the charged air flowing the through the coupling on the drivers side of the fmic, the fit from the fmic to the pipe was a little off. I'm thinking that the charged air when flowing through the fmic to the pipe, it's hitting this imperfect fit causing the whoosh whistling sound. I don't imagine any boost leak, as the car pulls in my observation stronger. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only person to experience this sound.

I guess the next step would be to dyno and perform a boost leak. Any other insight? Is there a how to on this boost leak test?

The only changed was the FMIC and the couplings. Nothing else was touched.

Removing your intake system and pressurizing the intake tract with an air compressor on the end of a capped coupler w/ fitting will simulate boost. Listen for leaks, they will be very evident if they exist. Usually whistling sounds are vacuum leaks in my experience but I can't say for sure since I haven't heard it myself. Let us know if we can help!

another question, in your kit you have two spacers in the bag that comes with the couplings. Where do those spacers go? I'm assuming both are used when bolting the fmic. One on the left and one on the right side when installing the fmic. Is that right?

You are correct. Both go between the bracket on the intercooler and the core support on either side.

Tom you were right on the money. Inserted the rogue spacer and wallah...no whistle. I'm taking Mikes advice and getting a boost leak test before some solid dyno pulls.

I'll update in coming weeks.

Thanks again!

Glad to hear that solved your problem! Everybody make sure you're using the supplied spacers between the side brackets and the core support on both sides so that everything lines up properly
