58 vs 61 trim spoolup om 2.0 and 2.3

Hey guys quick question. I am doing a complete engine build as mentioned before and have a quick question. Build plan for an auto-x/street app. I was wondering what the spoolup would be give or take on the 58 and 61 on both the stock block and also a Buschur 2.3 w/ stage III head. I realize noone probably has this setup, but if anyone has an intelligent estimate I would appreciate it.

Thank You

Seth

The 58 mm will reach full spool by 4000 rpm on a 2.0 and the 61mm will reach full spool 400-500 rpm later on the 2.0 as well. The 2.3 will spool up those same turbos 400-500 rpm sooner then the 2.0 liter will. The 2.0 is a better drag racing engine because is revs better and it can reach 10,000 rpm. The 2.3 is made for auto-x, but it will only reach max 8500 rpm.

Yes AUto-x is kinda what I am keeping in mind. I'm just not that into Drag anymore...

Also is there anything I can do to try and lower spool by a little more. Since I am throwing thousand and thousands at the car next month anyway....

This thread will give you some ideas of how the 61mm performs on the stock block and the stock head on an Evo IX. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...&highlight=ETS Spool up video included.

The only other thing you can do besides stepping into 2.4 to speed up the spool, is using noz. But I would stay away from that. As long as you build the motor from top to bottom right and you get a good tune you should be fine.

Now I heard there were quite a few problems using the 4G64 block because the deck height was taller. Problems with water pumps and stuff. I mean if not SBR is about to release a 2.6L block...

Alright sounds like a plan. Also since you seem fairly knowledgable, are there a set of cams you would recommend with the 61, 2.3, and buschur stg III head.

Everybody has been quoting this 400-500rpm difference between the 2.0 and 2.25 (to be exact). In reality you only see about 200rpm difference, at least that's what I got going from a 2.0 + AMS 3076 setup to the 2.25 Buschurs stroker + AMS 3076 (No other change whatsoever). However the additional TQ of a stroker is very much welcome in daily driving.

You should be fine with HKS 272, Cosworth M2, GSC S2 they are all good.

2.4 is a cheap way to go. The mod on the water pump is easy fix. Ask lucas English hes done some 2.4 builds. I have a good 2.4 block laying around also

Seth,
I see full boost on my personal car somewhere between 4200-4500RPM depending on gear but honestly don't pay too much attention because the power starts much sooner. It is extremely responsive for street use and doesn't feel laggy at all. My motor is a stock 2.0L with GSC 272 cams (OG style :lol). The 61 kits reach full boost by 4800RPM on a 2.0L as Nick showed you. Our 57 trim kits typically hit full boost in third in the VERY low 4000RPM range and would be close to stock spool on a 2.3L. If maximum powerband for autox is your plan then stick to the 57/58 size. If you'd like to have a bit more under your right foot for some occasional drag racing or freeway racing then a 61 would be the way to go.

Tom
