Huh, so the US is the only contry to be getting an Evo 9 MR.

Everyone else gets the choice of just the Evo9 (GSR, GT, RS)

If I had to choose an evo 9 to get it would be either the GT or RS, don't want no AYC here.

I don't think the Mivec is as tunable. Once you're putting in an aftermarket cam, I think the benefit is gone (no?). I don't think there's much here to get excited about. A great choice for someone who's been saving up or waiting on an Evo and wants to get one now (though I'd think a used VIII would be MUCH better for the money). Otherwise, the next interesting landmark will be what (if it will even exist) they do with the 10. If they don't give us the SAYC with the X, they're hopeless.

Agreed - I'm leaning towards the GSR.

Well if you're serious about chasing big power and doing racing then the AYC diff will sooner or later tell you to bugger off.

Which is why you see a lot of high HP or racing evos running the RS diff.

But if you just do a little bit of racing and have moderate hp then it should hold up fine.

Some people just hate how the AYC diff reacts to what their doing or just get sick of it breaking and replace it with an RS diff.

I know of one guy with an evo6 whose broken 3 AYC diffs and has given up and gotten an RS diff, hes liking it more now.

I think a lot of you guys think about tuning too much. Guys like me need to stay stock and keep the warranty. That's why I'm liking the IX.

True, I drove an Evo VII and Evo VIII Eurospec, and I don't like how the car feel "driving on one wheel". SAYC is more trouble to take care of it.

Given that it doesn't have S-AYC, the specs are very similar to the '05 STi, and given that I'm not into extreme modding, the tuning potential of the Evo engine isn't really a big selling point for me (like it is for a lot of people on here).

I dunno, I really like the looks of the Evo though.

Overpriced compared to what? Seriously pay attention to the performance and then let me know which car has better performance for the same price.

Compared to, say......the STi.

The MR is over $3k more and stock-for-stock there's very little difference in real-world performance between the two (for the average Joe). In fact, for a daily-driver, the STi might even be better and that's not just my humble opinion. Not everyone buys these cars to mod the sh*t out of them. If you're not into serious modding, then the Evo loses some of its obvious appeal.

You're setting yourself up for a "then go buy ab Sti and be happy!" comment dude!

Seriously though, the Evo is more hard core with it's sharper steering etc.
The 9 GSR is going to be faster than current Sti and $3 grand cheaper.
To top it all - you might be surprised how many of us are track junkies and not only mod, but race the hell out of our cars - so, average Joe - don't be too quick to assume.

That's the whole point. For that price to performance there are only two cars you can get, the Sti and the EVO, after that you'll have to spend upwards of $50 K. That makes them a bargin...relatively speaking. When you think of the options they are not expensive. Oh, for people who keep their cars stock the $3k difference between the Sti and MR shrinks as the MR has free maintenance for 45,000 miles.

Interesting... I've never cared for that AYC myself ... it seems like too much of a good thing! I think I'd prefer to drive the car myself.

To be totally honest I'm a performance car fan (not an Evo or STi fan-boy) so I'll buy whatever suits my needs best, irregardless of the badge it's sporting. I'm still deliberating between the Evo IX and STi and it could swing either way......just waiting to see what the '06 STi specs are first before I make up my mind.

I'm still bothered by MMNA's bleek financial outlook (irregardless of whatever positive spin they're trying to put on it)......plus my local Suby dealer is the #1 volume seller in the Nation and they sell everything at $400 over invoice (STi including), no bs, no haggling etc., totally professional. I'm totally impartial and on-the-fence at the moment.....currently I'm leaning more towards the Evo, but I have a rather disconcerting feeling that my heart is ruling my head on this one. We'll see
