I know that the IX has gotten some flak since it doesn't come with the same features as its euro version, but if you are someone who doesn't own an evo would it still be worth it to buy? or would getting an VIII be the same thing

The VIII is an excellent vehicle and will be very similar in performance to the IX.
Both these cars lack "only" the AYC (active yaw control) of their foreign counterparts and are still VERY close in performance. I actually prefer it this way. costs a whole lot less and there is less to break / maintain.
We also have 100 lbs of crash safe material added to US version. good / bad depends upon you take on safety vs performance. Most of this weight can probably be deleted by swapping on the JDM front and rear bumpers.

We will get some new goodies on the IX, however, such as updated interior colors, new front fascia, and variable valve timing. It's a personal choice if that is worth a 5 month wait to you.

I like the upgrades, and I'm in no hurry, so for the $500 price increase, I think it's worth it - I'll wait for the 9.

Other new goodies on the IX are the improved turbo and 5-speed gear ratios, which give it more appeal than the VIII, as a new buyer. The odds are stacked against you to be able to buy a IX for only $500 more than the comparable VIII trim, as they'll be selling VIIIs way under MSRP and IXs close to MSRP or over. If you won't accept less than a IX, then be prepared to pay, but if you can tolerate saving $2-3K and getting a VIII, then that could be the way to go.

Yes - to clarify MSRP is expected to increase by Around $ 500. on all models.

And of course if I was getting "last year's" model I would expect to pay $2G less than the new release!

BUT - If you deposit now on a IX with a little negotiation you can secure a good deal - certainly less than MSRP. Mitsubishi WANTS your business!

I am trading in my S2000 for the new IX when it is available, but I am a little dissapointed that Mitsu did not add Side Impact Airbags or Cruise Control to the IX. Almost makes me want to consider the Sti, because I take a 2 hour trip at least once per month and have kids!

I honestly believe the Sti is an excellent choice if you are in the "rally car" market.

It does have certan advantages, and one needs to weigh the pros and cons based on your needs.

If I were not into doing track days and autocrossing - I might be inclined to consider the Sti as a more civilized alternative.

But I like the sharpness of the Evo.

anybody notice that the IX will come with tinted windows? I thought they looked darker than normal in the pics we've seen so far. Now if they would tell me if the IX MR will be in black and I'll be set!!
