but yeah, the batteries are heavy, and the wheels are a terrible place for them and/or the motors. i used to work for a company that was designing vehicles in exactly the same fashion (motor/battery combo in the wheels) - and i've yet to hear a good enough argument as to why they should be placed there, given the immense headache it is designing and beefing up everything else that is required.
batteries are across the floor not in the wheels

Tesla motors is supposed to reveal what their electric sports car is
in a couple of days. The rumor a while ago was that it was based
on the Elise chasis.

The video of this weird *** electric car at the autocross is crazy looking. The
batteries give it a very low center of mass for its profile.

In the future, when perfected, these cars are going to fly.

I don't understand how the MIEV takes 8 seconds to reach 60 miles an hour. Each
motor outputs 400 ft-lb of torque. Acceleration to 60 shouldn't be a power a problem
with 67hp at each wheel. The car is 3500lbs, but that's not too ridiculous.

because the electric motors are direct drive and does not go through a transmission. so, although the torque seems high but it's torque at the wheel which is not high at all. do you really think that the 250 ft/lb of torque from the 4g63 can move a 3300 lbs car. the transmission mulitply the torque to over 4000 ft/lb of torque at the wheel in first gear.

Stay calm

The Eboost Eclipse Mitsu did was sick fast. Rocket to the moon pull you back in the seat hard instant acceleration. If technology sounds lousy to you, you should be driving a steam powered cast iron car. All we need to do is make up for the lackof an exhaust note now. In wheel motors would make for equal weight dist as well as lowered center of gravity.

Any more news on this?

I had someone point out their website to me today. It looks so much like the Elise! Even the emblem looks similar to Lotus.
