Prototype X vs Concept X what do you think?

After looking at the pictures of both cars I realized that something was different. I could not put my finger on it at first, but I knew it looked different. We all recall seeing the Concept X and many of us thinking that it would cost at least $40k for that car. The Concept X had class, it looked expensive. Now I’m not talking about the interior, as we all knew that would never make production. What I’m talking about is the exterior styling.

After scrutinizing both pictures I realized that some subtle but major changes have been made to the Prototype X:

1. The roofline has changed. In the original Concept X the car had a swooping rear roofline. Similar to the Mercedes CLS or the new Jaguar concept car. Mercedes calls this style of car a “four door coupe”. It was cutting edge styling and looked both modern and classy, granted it would mean less rear headroom.
2. The fenders are different. They more closely resemble the Evo IX now. It’s understandable why they did this. However I believe the Concept X’s fender design looked much better.
3. The headlights. Well what can be said. They went from Aston Martin to Toyota. I’m shaking my head. Somewhere a designer sits in a corner sobbing away.
4. The grill. The Concept X was menacing but classy. Whereas the Prototype X seems to be wearing lots of jewelry and makeup to compensate for the fact that she’s just not that pretty.
5. The rear. Oh dear. What happened to the Concept X’s rear defuser? I cannot imagine anyone who like the Evo for performance would be happy to see that get removed. But gone it is, and replaced with what? Something that looks like little more than a styling cue.

Do you remember when the Concept X was released? Just about all the reports raved about how stunning it looked. Now all they say is it’s a big improvement over the IX. It’s not that they don’t like it, and it’s not that it’s an ugly car, because it isn’t. It’s just that it’s not drop dead gorgeous either… Well not anymore.

There must be more differences. Perhaps some of you would care to point them out?

Well they can't bring everything on the car all at once. I think that there will be minor things added to the car every year just like they did with the MR and the Evo 9 models. Overall I love the look of the New Evo. I currently have the 8 and I was thinking on getting the Evo 9 also. I really didn't know what to do. Now that I have seen the new EVO X.... There is no question about it. I Will wait for the car to come out. I love that way it looks and I know it will rock in performance. Think about it people. This is Mitsubishi's special car. They will make all of us very happy. Also I think it looks like the Skyline a little. Can't wait to get it.

I do like the looks of the Concept X better but most of the things they changed were probably done to make it into a better production car. I liked how the Concept X just had a fender flare to cover the wheels, made the car look like a race car. Problem is that in the real world those tires need someplace to go and the suspension has to be somewhat compliant. All in all I think they did a nice job converting the Concept into a Prototype and the changes will not deter me from getting one when they come out.

I like the smaller headlights on the concept, it looks really mean and completely unique. They probably though it looked too mean, and people are scared!

They probably changed the roofline so one wouldn't have to be 4'6" to fit in the back seat. But the prototype did have a better looking roofline.

This funny, because when they released the Concept X, people were just *****ing left and right. The point is nothing can be perfect and there will always be somebody complaining about something. So anyhow, I still believe the Prototype X is very nice and step into the right direction. Although 95% of what you see on the Prototype X is what the actual production car will be, I still believe that that last 5% will be substantial. The Concept looks like, just what is called a Concept, while the Prototype looks like an actual real road going car. Also there is still a lot of information we do not know about for the Prototype X, info that I for one believe is just as or even more important than the actual design of the car, such as engine specs and power, weight, acceleration numbers, and etc. We can all talk crap, but if the EVO X comes out with 350HP and handles like a dream, and runs mid 12s stock, I guarrantee there will be a different out look. Then who knows, a TBE, Intake and Tune and these cars make close to 400whp, and now I know people would be lining up to buy EVO Xs. I am not saying this is going to be the case, I'm just saying there is still a lot we don't know, a lot of stuff that we don't know that when it comes to buying an EVO is VERY important. I mean all we know now is how the car will look, how many EVO owners bought their cars because of our awesome interiors???

I really wish the Prototype X had kept the Concept X's flared fenders. The Prototype X now looks too slab-sided with the high belt-line. Also, why must cars keep getting taller and taller?

Exactly, When I see some numbers and or track performance vs some other car will dispute if this car is worth getting. I'm just hoping handling and power will be better, at worst equal to the current evo. As well as aftermarket friendly; ex: buy an intake & tbe and get 40whp+ gains

I think the Concept X was just so much better overall.

I heard they were going after the M3 too w/the X. And the Concept X really looked like it was up there as far as design goes. The roof-line, fender flares, front fender vent, front and rear overhangs, rear diffuser, headlights, taillights, etc.

All that was nice in the Concept X is lost in the Prototype X.

Prototype X looks like a matchbox version of the Concept X.

actually, if i had my way i would take the Concept X and put in the front end of the Concept Sportback. Although some of you may think they look the same, but there are some differences. the Sportback Concept frontend looks way better.

but as i posted on the other thread, i'm liking the Prototype X...
