some things and questions i noticed:

-at 0:55 when the guy puts the car in drive is he intentionally pulling up on the collar around the stick? if you look at the stick there's obviously no button to push in and if you notice he pulls straight back to go to drive, not in a zig zag fashion that's so popular these days. so do you have to like pull up on that collar thingy to move the stick through the "shift gate"??? or am i imagining things anybody know how this is done on the VW DSG??? it'd be dangerous if the gear selection has no lock right?

-ASC was noted as being "on" so i guess you can turn it "off" for some drifting malarkey?

-i dunno how it's programmed in the CVT version but it looks as if you can go from "drive" to "manual" shifting by just using the paddle shifters. but then how do you go back to "drive" from manual shifting? how do you do this on the 08 GTS CVT?

-i can't make out when he upshifts, but is it possible that when in drive you can manually override the gear selection by using the paddles but then the software immediately goes back to drive? i see the guy downshifting but i can't make out if he's manually upshifting as well or if the software is upshifting for him and he's downshifting to go back into the upper rev range. anybody got better eyes? if there is such a way to do this then it's not reflected in the dash display that simply goes from D5 or D6 to 5 (manual) or 6 (manual).

hope there's a part 3

I don't know about the Evo, but I know on the BMWs (such as the 335i), you can upshift or downshift and be put directly into tiptronic by just the paddles, but to move back into drive you have to physically move the shifter to sport and then back to drive.

He's manually upshifting using the paddles on the other side of the column, you just don't see those reflections on the cluster.

You can override and shift manually using the paddles or the stick whenever you feel like up or down in whatever mode the car is in. You go back to "drive" from manual shifting if you reach the limiter or slow to a stop - by itself, you shouldn't have to tell it to do stuff if you forget to shift in manual mode. I have a feeling though in Supersport mode it will not auto shift-up when it reaches the rev limit and will just bounce; but in normal and sport it will shift-up.

...and it looks like that video is a leaked Best Motoring episode coming out as Aug. or Sept editions. In which case they are sure to have an extensive head-to-head comparo battle with the Evo IX.

I think this car will have launch control much like vw's dsg, hold the brakes and the gas pedal, and let go of the brakes. I doubt the guy did a neutral drop.

WOW, I think I just peed a little bit. Great find! It was nice to see the car pushed in a video finally. That thing is going to rip up the slalom.

I spied:
-7k redline
-an active awc acd display
-impressive launch with the SST gear box

Normally I enjoy a true 6-speed manual over anything automated, but I have to give it up to Mitsubishi. From the looks of the video it seems like their SST is quite amazing to say the least. I have driven the new GTi with DSG and from what I remember it doesn't downshift or upshift as fast, in succession. It is very quick, but the way the driver was going up and down the gears and how the trans. was reacting was impressive in the Evo X. The handling looks like its going to be crazy with this car. I cant even wait till' I can get a test drive of this machine. This car and the BMW 135i are at the very top of my list. I believe this car will be another benchmark in sports sedans.

That thing looks pretty tail happy in the the video, I wonder if there is going to be any suspension differences ( ie: softer springs [please no!]) between what we are seeing and the USDM version.....

Downshifts look promising on the SST. That's really been my biggest gripe with the DSG on my A3. We'll see how the real thing performs...
