Evo X brochure (japanese)
... On closer inspection, that ASC on the button actually stands for Active Stability Control, not Active Steering Control.

On page 14, there is a pic of a button that's used for turning off the Active Steering Control (ASC) component of S-AWC - couldn't find any stability control button - doubt there'll be one. I find this interesting because I've read that the X test mule's steering felt too artificial. Good thing the driver can opt to turn it off.
i wanna know why there's a AWC button on the dash when they have that AWC switch on the steering wheel?
Yeah, I just caught that myself. For confirmation, I looked on MMNA's website and looked at the PDF about S-AWC and SST - http://mitsubishicars.com/MMNA/jsp/evo/08/index.do ... ASC used to stand for Active Steering Control. This is great news that Mitsu. dropped that component because it didn't work in the test mule. Best to leave the Evo's steering alone, as it is of the best in the business.
Here's a superb article that compared the JDM Evo IXs to the X test mule: http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/fe...ion/index.html ... Check page two for the older version of S-AWC.

Yeah, the PDF reads: "S-AWC: The system now adds an ASC (Active Stability Control) feature to the ACD, AYC and Sport ABS components that have proven themselves in the Lancer Evolution series."
Google "Evo X Active Steering Control" and you get many hits. It was in the works, but it didn't work out. Again, good news, albeit old.

As an auto magazine journalist, I was fortunate to see the unveiling of the Evo X and its gonna be a killer machine. I spoke with the designers of the Evo X and they say it will be unrivaled and the new STI isn't ready for this new model. I was lucky enough to test drive the prototype in Japan last year and be prepared to either trade in your 8 or 9 or possibly garage it. This Evo X wil revolutionize the tuner world. You'll see.
I don't know about revolutionizing though haha but it will probably be the best evo built.
so anyone here drive a BMW with the active steering? if it's "revolutionary" technology, i'd love to see it come to fruition perhaps in later models. if it messes up the already great steering feel, then i'd rather not have it of course.
so anybody have any comments on BMW's active steering?
