Chance of Evo X coming with 6spd manual?
Also what do you guys mean when there is no reverse, surely there is! Sorry I am noob
I really think mitsu realized the 6spd was weak on the VIII's and IX's, and didn't make one in the X because they don't want to be servicing them for a shattered or broken 4th gear. The six speed has a smaller 4th gear that tends to break, therefore, no more 6 spd manual....
Like others have said, revise your gear ratio....keep the five....

Any of the consistently tracked evo's putting down BIG power will tell you the five spd is the way to go. If they had a six spd, they already changed to a 5.
I am thinking about changing my gear ratio on my 5spd commuter though, because it's a little annoying on the highway at or above 3k rpms... My Jeep would have blown up by now if I had it at 3k rpms all the time...haha

in the new evo, they use a combination of 2 gears (3 and 1 i think, someone correct me if i'm wrong here) to achieve the effect of a reverse gear.
^ but the IX was 1 year before it turned to X
They never made a 2007 EVO IX.
It ended at 2006, and sold til 2008, as a 2006 model.
All in all... the 6 speed from Mitsu, was a piece of **** at the track...
For daily driving, it was ok.
And like someone else mentioned above, Replacement gear sets are not to far away....
Last I heard from a little birdy on a tree, is that soon Shep Trans will make a set of taller gears for the evo X... I am hoping this just wasn't BS.

Many manufactures make 6 speed transmissions that can hold big power, the evo ix 6 speed is weaker then the 5 speed, but it does not have to be that way. It is about cost. It is probably too expensive to build a 6 speed that is as beefy as the 5.
a new gear ratios for the five speed would be very nice. I could put them in when i have to replace my clutch. lol. Any word on when these might be done as i am sure that a LOT of people would be interested in this.
You guys know that the MR has a taller rear end right? You could just swap the MR rear end and get real tall gears with the GSR...
GRS Final Drive: 4.687
MR Final Drive: 4.062
Probably too tall unless you are making 400+ wheel but it would put 80mph in 5th gear at 3,200 rpm. Also 7,000 rpm in 5th would be 173mph.
Despite the arguments about strength, which I do agree with, what we need is a 6 speed that is as strong as the 5speed with a slightly shorter 5th and a tall overdrive 6th for the highway cruise gear:
revised 5th from .761 to .861 (shift from 4th@7,000 would drop you to 5,500 in 5th)
added 6th with .681 (80mph in 6th = 3,200 rpm / 6th@7K = 168mph)
Sure, I know it's probably not possible without ridiculous application of cash, but it never hurts to dream a little.

Take what you hear from salesmen with a grain of salt. To them, the MR is already "6 speed"...
Also.. no reason to have a 6-speed. Maybe a taller 5th/overdrive, but not 6 ratios. Driving EVO IX MRs on the street is annoying as hell.. *shiftshiftshiftshiftshiftshift*
On top of that, we're talking about a low-ish compression 4-cyl engine that can barely get out of its own way unless you're boosting. The last thing you want to do is try running V8 RPM on the freeway.. you'll be under big load the entire time!

dealer recently and i was looking at a X and they told me that if i want to wait til 2010 there WILL be a 6spd MR
