"The Mitsubishi Evo is no more
Matt Prior
I’ve just spent an engaging half-hour in the company of Gayu Eusegi, Mitsubishi’s global product director.
Mostly we talked about the new Global Small Concept, which will be built in Thailand and sized somewhere between a Toyota Aygo and the Colt supermini. It’ll go on UK sale in 2012, effectively replacing the Colt in the line-up.

But also he told me some news, which seemed to surprise a few Mitsubishi Europe bods as much as it did me.
The Lancer Evolution X, Eusegi told me, will be the last Evo. “There is still a demand [for the car],” he said, “but we must stop.” Eyebrow up.
“Our influence now is EV technology,” Eusegi said, adding that the decision was a “policy change”.
It seems Mitsubishi, which is going to introduce eight full electric or hybrid cars by 2015, has decided its image is about lowering CO2, not making lurid replicas of rally cars that don’t go top-level rallying any more.
Eusegi said that customers would find it “easier to understand” what Mitsubishi was about if it was no longer in this motorsport-inspired market.
He seemed to put the rumoured diesel hybrid Evo replacement to bed, too. So the X will be the last Evolution model? “Yes. Maybe the world can change, and maybe someday we can do a motor race by electric vehicles,” said Eusegi. “Maybe then we can enter the market again.”
Until then, prepare yourselves for the end of an era.

I am sure increasing X pricing, high costs of ownership, lack of warranty, aiming for an older market bracket (BMW and other), decreasing market share to other brands, decreasing quality, decreasing line up...all had nothing to do with that.
And EV cars are still not profitable, fun to drive, or that environmentally friendly.

im not really sure it will happen , but its out there loud and clear.
The worst case sinerio is, our car will end up as a Lancia Integrale. Legend .
So either way im not too disturb. I hope the Ford will wake up and start bring those nasty fords form EU.
I would get one of those.
Or Pegueot! etc.

They should also find it "easier to understand" that after buying five new Mitsubishis in my day, that I'll never buy another new one. This green crap can fly a kite. I'll go back to BMW when it comes time to buy a new car. In the meanwhile, I hope to keep my Evo for years to come.

Because the target market shopping for econobox hybrids is totally looking at mitsubishi right? No. Toyota has that market locked up with the Prius and nobody is touching it. Ask honda how the CR-Z is selling, I think I've seen two since they rolled onto the showroom.
The Evo is what was keeping Mitsu afloat.

Well this means Mitsubishi will not be around to much longer. The Evo kept them afloat for years. Sad news but I never planned on buying a new Evo anyway. I'm keeping my ix and just swapping motors until the floor falls out.
While we may not see the RS line word is (current car and driver article by Davis E Davis) that we may see a Shelby Focus and Fiesta.
Mitsubishi will most likely fail here in the states and maybe in the world. I mean, they are popular in many 3rd world nations, you know where there are no stable powergrids if there is a power grid at all. Seems to me to sell EV's you would need that.
This blows, but I cannot see the Evo line keeping Mitsubishi afloat. it isn't exactly a common mainstream car like the lancer or galant. Those types of cars are every manufacturer's bread and butter
So now it's up to Ford to give us full time AWD, a manual transmission option, and at least 300hp.
Ford seems pretty weak right now in the small car market. They have such a dumb interest in FWD. Hopefully they can figure out that AWD has it's place in their lineup and fill the niche of the Evo.
As much as I don't want a STI, I *will* buy one over another FWD Ford no matter what. Audi/BMW/Benz are all too expensive to maintain let alone mod for performance. We're running out of options

And where does electricity come from? Mostly coal and nuclear. Some hydro, but hydro plants still make a mess of the area they are in. Some solar or wind. Nothing like seeing endless fields of giant windmills.
Then there are the batteries that have to be serviced and replaced. Not cheap and not get to dispose of.
