Turbo diesel and smaller body are all very intrigueing. The real goal is to design an exterior that will sell and a car that can out perform everone else and market it like the way they did the Sport. If they can expose this new lancer ad wise and make it look good then Mitsu just may have a some hope of staying in the U.S market.

But as I already mentioned, upcoming Outlander (MY2013) is 220lbs lighter with 4b12 engine than predecessor (MY2012) with 4b12
Seeing that Lancers and Outlanders are tied by platforms you've got something to hope for. And also to hope that Mitsubishi makes poorman Evo trim with some silly small turbo engine and old AWD system for a bargain price, I see that as US market trouble-buster for Mitsu.

I think it is 2014. They already announced that no new EVOs will be brought to the UK, and the regular Lancer is already sold out. I would have to imagine that the US will eventually follow suit.
