Well that depends. I got a flash, but you still have OCD lapses with it. Like do I need to reflash for new mods, what mods work with it, what won't. At won't point do I need to think about upgrading to something more substantial like a UTEC or EMS. What mods would I do then, etc.

Yes, Scary.

If you're really serious, get the AMS EMS, and never look back. I know one of the topic UTEC tuners in the land, and it's just not an exact science tuning with that unit on the Evo just yet. It's nails for the Subie guys, but they've had more practice. (just IMO; what I've learned).

Got that. Also can run ther coffee maker for those long nights in the garage.

boomn29- huh? sell UTEC and get another ****ty thing by AEM? Heck they can't even get an intake to fit right, and I'm suppose to trust them with the ECU. Not to ***** and moan but thats why I went UTEC, and we all have MailbuJack for 24 hour troubleshooting.

For as off topic as this is.. Although I like the AEM EMS, I'd stay way from it on a daily driven car, it just requires way too much attention at the worst possible times until its fully tweaked for all environments and weather conditions. it just doesn't learn conditions like the stock ECU can.. The guys who are having very few problems don't have to worry about severe weather changes or driving in heavy traffic every day..

And tuning on ANYTHING isn't an exact science.. [sales pitch] But the UTEC is the most exact tuning tool of any of the piggybacks offering the tuning features of a standalone with the ease of use, installation and drivability of the stock ECU. [/sales pitch]

Unless you've really worked with any of these things extensively, its hard to make judgements on them. But I can tell you that the UTEC does what you tell it to do, and does it accurately, therefore mistakes can be costly. Most issues people are having are due to the learning curve that any new tuner goes through.

OEM ecu is definitely an amazing tool. I would not sacrifice it if I wanted to maintain a very civilized daily driver. I have the AEM and would have no problem daily driving my car with it installed, but to say that it is without its drawbacks relative to a stock ecu would be a stretch. If you don't like to tune things yourself I would advise staying away from the AEM as it is likely you will have to tweek many parameters(cold start, idle, etc) youself. With the UTEC you will be more focussed on tuning performance oriented parameters, which is something a qualified tuner should be able to easily do, and you will not sacrifice any drivability.
