For now, leave all your settings at 0% highs and lows. Get a hold of a logger then follow this;

I'm running pretty much stock right now. I'm not anywhere my car but some very conservative setting I put was like around 4000-4500 +1 5000-5200 -3 5200-5600 -5 5600-6000 -7 6000-6400 -9 6400-7000 -9 7200--- +10.

I put +10 after 7200 as a precautionary measure. I'm not sure if it will help prevent detonation after redline, but when my friends drive my car they always misshift. Bastards...

What is the "logger" theyre talking about in that link?

Shouldn't you be using a wideband o2 sensor instead of the stock narrowband?

The logger plugs into the OBDII port and lets you log timing, tps, etc.

It does read the stock narrow band, so you can't really fine tune a/f ratios with it, but it does assure that you are still pig rich (safe).

I was going to get one, then I got confused about what I needed to buy and what was a "good" logger for a good price. I was leaning towards the pocketlogger.

I'm now looking to get my car flashed soon, but a logger could still be useful, right? I'm probably going to sell the SAFCII to fund the flash.

Thoughts or advice on a particular logger and what "exactly" I need to buy?

A logger is always helpful. It tells you exactly what's going on with your car by being able to monitor and log so many parameters, and reads and clears codes. It will tell you if the flash has your car running it's best or not. Log it, and see what's really going on.
Pocketlogger is a fine product, but the same thing can be pieced together a little cheaper like this;
The most inexpensive Palm m100 or m500 series you can find,
a hot sync cable (that should come with the Palm),
an interface like a T16-003 (http://www.multiplex-engineering.com/interfaces.htm)
and free software (http://www.evotuners.net/forums/showthread.php?t=421)

Stock narrow bands are fine to tune with and people have been tuning with them for years. Target O2's on our sensors are .92-.94 volts at WOT. The only thing is that you can't rely on them solely. When logging, you take the O2 data, plus timing advance, coresponding RPMS, and EGT's (if you can), put that all together and you have a clear picture of what's going on with your car.
Even if I had a wideband I'd still use a logger. Just because you have your A/F ratio on target, doesn't mean the ECU isn't holding timing due to a little knock. You need to see the whole picture and loggers allow you to monitor more.

I'm going to try this and see how it goes. I have my S-AFC from previous DSMs now installed on the Evo through a patch harness, but I am reluctant to really use it until I have a logging device. I had been trying to find someone who has one locally, but I guess I can just learn to do it myself using this advice. I'll report back when I have all the parts and have given it a shot.
