S-AFC II install wiring trouble..... HELP PLEASE.
S-AFC II install wiring trouble..... HELP PLEASE.
I got rid of my AEM EMS, and I'm putting the S-AFC II back.
Can some one WITH KNOWLEDGE verify the wiring I attempted, since it is not working properly.
Problem: Car starts, but AFC is off with only the green dial on. Car idels very rough, "Service Engine Soon" P:102 "Mass air something.
My wiring:
Wire color on S-AFC ECU wire harness color
Power (Red) Pin 25 Red/Brown wire
Ground (brown) Pin 26 black wire
Ground (Black) Pin 26 black wire
RPM Signal (Green) Pin 89 Brown/green
Throttle Posistion (grey) Pin 84 Green wire
Air flow Signal out (pink) Pin 90 white/red
Air flow signal in (orange) Pin 90 white/red
Knock signal (purple) Pin 78 white
According to Evotuners.com
(RPM) green wire into pin 58 not 88 . But still not working right
Where does the blue wire go ? I understand you don't connect either the white or the Yellow.
Please: Don't refer me to another link, I have been searching for the answer for a day now.

off topic, you selling the EMS? or is it gone?>
Go to road race engineering's sight and buschurracings sight, they have a pin diagram on rre and directions for installation on BR's sight

I can help, since I just installed mine this week.
- Make ABSOLUTELY SURE you grounded in the proper order. One should be closer to the ECU than the other. Off the top of my head, I think it's brown, but you should triple-check.
- RPM DEFINITELY goes to pin 58, not 88, but this would not affect the S-AFC II negatively. It would only cause RPMs not to register properly.
- Blue is not used. We used to use it on DSMs to tap into the O2, but then I read somewhere on here that people believed it to degrade the signal or something, so I didn't do it.

Make sure the connections are good inside the AFC.
Carefully unscrew the back cover with the proper small size Phillips screwdriver. Make sure the little connectors are plugged in all the way.

rpm OUTPUT from ecu is pin 58, it does not vary with engine rpms.
Need to tap a lead coming the other way, and the ecu doesn't see rpm input (amazingly) (according to roadrace's diagram)

exact? I tapped it for a cruise system, stuck the wire tester in, and no matter the rpm, it never changed. Always read the same voltage. ( put it back together, don't remember what it read)

Yes all my connections are correct. DO you all think my AFC is bad ! I bought it used but never installed it. The dial lights up, but the screen is off.
Do you all know if I can send it to Apexi for a repair ?

well, i have no idea either, after further investigating my cruise unit, it's somehow recognizing the rpm lead, but when i tested for it, i got no variation at all.
pin 58 seems to be workin though.

go to the diy section---do it yourself section------

and for ease of install, stripping a wire to the ecu down, rather than using an inline connector is kinda a waste.
next thing you know, people will be telling you the best thing is to cut it in half, then solder it back together
Is your pink and orange wire is in the right direction? one has to face the ecu, (can't remember which one faces)
you need at least 1 cm or 1/2 inch space between the black and brown wires.
RPM wire goes to 58 pin.
would be nice to see the wires pictured.

OK i had the SAME problem. The SAFC's are extremely touchy. You need to check your wiring again and make sure that nothing is pulling the wires tight that could be compromising the connection. Use lots of electrical tape to give slack and make sure everything is nice and tight. Thats about the only advice i can give. The reason that it runs like poo is because it isnt calibrated and running on default settings which are NOT karmann type, set to 6 cylinders and low throttle at like 50%. DONT crank your car with it like this.
OH and the blue wire needs to be disconnected along with the other too, they aren't needed.
