264/264 cams, stock ecu, and tuning

hello guys.

i actually have a hks super afr, but it is really similar to your s-afc, at least in the way it adjusts for fueling, so i thought i'd ask my question here....

my car is very close to stock; i don't have a boost controler, i don't have a ecu flash. i do have a cat delete 2.5" downpipe and a rear muffler delete. i have the hks super afr on there and have tuned the car to 11.3 - 11.5 AFR from 3500 to 7800 using a wideband LM-1.

question as follows: i just bought a set of very slightly used HKS 264/264 cams, which i'd like to install myself. i would then like to retune using just the HKS super AFR, without a flash.... is this piggyback unit going to be able to tune the car well enough to support a good idle, good "regular commuting" around town manners, and a good performance when its mashed to the wood?

the tune currently, without the cams installed, starts at 3500 (-1) and goes to (-12) at the redline.....

thanx, piggy back gurus!

Should work.

I made 300 WHP with 264i/272e cams and an SAFCII.

I made slight adjustments SOTP (no wideband! ), and idle was fine with a mild lope (no cam gears). With straight 264s should be ok.

Good luck,

For better idle wouldn't you need to adjust your timing through the ECU and timing from the Cam Gears?

hi. i didn't get cam gears; was told that with 264/264 they weren't alot of use; with the bigger cams, apparently they are needed alot more.

i think with the hks super afr i can adjust the idle mixture independantly of the power adjustment mixture; also i plan on upping the idle to about 950 to 1000 rpm to smooth it out a bit....

thanx for the responses so far!

you don't need the gears. you should have no problems having stock-like idle with straight 264's. if by chance you do just get a mail in flash and then fine tune it with you hks unit and wideband.
