Map sensor with utec
I was just curious about what exactly using a map sensor with the utec does..Can a utec be set up like an HKS vein pressure converter using pre detirmined maps for fuel and getting readings from a map sensor to manipulate those maps according to boost/rpm/load??I have not yet seen an evo running utec without a mas so it just has me wondering..Does it use use a map sensor as an added tool to automaticlt try to smoothen the curve while on/off different levels of boost??TIA
Your UTEC uses the MAF reading to determine load which determines the route that your car will take through you map. Due to inconsistencies in MAF readings and issues associated with using the MAF to determine load(or personal preference) some people choose to install an external MAP sensor. The external MAP sensor is then connected to the UTEC and you have the ability to use the MAP reading to determine load instead of the MAF.
The MAF is not removed and the MAP sensor does not have any other subtle benefits to the UTEC. It is simply a pressure measurement that the UTEC can use to calculate load.

Also, the MAP Sensor for the UTEC can be used with the boost control to offer closed loop boost control, and of course, logging data.
And I'm running an aftermarket (Ford Cobra) MAF sensor on my car. So I am not running a stock MAF that would be prone to airflow anomolies (resulting in tuning inconsistencies and restrictions due to overrun)
