Sell it. They were the in S@@t when the evo first cam out. I took mine out and got a flash. It only controls fuel. You need something for fuel and timing, although it looks good at night.

Eh, don't listen to that 1st guy, but you may make the same decision at the end, just not for the reason he listed. He says you need something to control fuel and timing, but he has no control over anything. He has settings that stay the same every day of the year, regardless of temp/humidity/boost/octane. That may be sufficient for him, but it's not for me. I like to keep my AFR/timing optimum at all times in all conditions. Yes, I can indirectly control timing by adjusting my AFRs where I see knock, but it's not as good as having a standalone or a flash + S-AFC.

Since you already have the S-AFC, here are some things to think about:

1) First off, you should not be asking ANYONE for settings. You don't use an S-AFC as a direct alternative to a flash. You use it to be in CONTROL of your own tuning on a daily basis. The fact you are asking for settings tells me that you probably don't have a logging device (e.g. pocketlogger). You need to get a datalogger of some sort before installing the S-AFC. Then, when you install it, you should start with your settings at 0% across the board, go do a 3rd gear pull from 3k-redline while logging, then view the timing/afr. Next, you adjust your fuel settings at the appropriate RPMs to get the AFRs and timing properly set. You continue doing this with small, incremental fuel adjustments until you have a nice AFR (11.0-11.5) that provides a near-linear timing advance that peaks around 20 at redline. If this is all jibberish, then consider a flash.

2) If you don't already have the Fields harness, you should get one in order to keep from splicing into your ECU wires. If you get the harness, you can splice the SAFC wires into it while outside the car, then go plug it straight into the ECU very easily. From that point on, you will be able to install/uninstall the S-AFC in less than 5 mins.

Sorry I forgot to tell you, I took it off and got a turbotrix flash. The stock computer is great at learning and adjusting. The only problem is that you have to get reflashed for every part you put on. You dont want to keep messing with things if you dont know what to do.

All cars are different but I find there is a general setting for stock evo with MBC. this should work fine for MBC and TB.
make it little bit richer for 30k~50k rpm. give it like +2(start 30k with +1 and make 42k~44k +2 and taper down to 0 at 50k) . then lean out till 64 k rpm -5
then, back to 0 at 74k rpm for safety. and set ur MBC at 21 psi.
you should be safe with this setting. And, never put any gas below 91 octane rating with this setting.

funny cause all the safcII cars in norcal are making way more then the flashed cars..so how could that be? SAFC allows for more fine tuning.. plus you can make adjustments yourself and run multiple maps.. cant do that with a flash. Of course it might be worth it to go with the new smart xede

basic flash, data-logger (pockerlogger.com or plxm500), and use s-afc II to tune it.

no problem.

I liked my SAFC-II when I tuned it using a wideband logger, but my car is definitely faster now that I had a custom flash performed. I am holding on to my SAFC though because when I make more changes to my car, my custom flash will no longer be perfect.

What do we think looks best??? Mine isn't even in view, so I wouldn't know what looks best, but I prefer to have it set to monitor RPM and Karman. I have no use for anything else except TPS at first to make sure everything is reading properly.

I had a feeling someone would say something about looks. I am just curious b/c I don't know much about the afc. I was wondering if there is anything worth showing on it as I was thinking of mounting below my climate controls. How do you change the displays on it?

You just go in there and change it. Did you get yours already setup beforehand or something? Usually, whenyou install it, you have to go through the setup procedures, which would make this question self-explanatory. There's a few screens where you choose 2- 3- or 4-channel view, and then it lets you choose which of the 6 parameters to view (karman, tps, cor, rpm, etc), and then it lets you choose 3-4 different viewing styles (numeric values, graphical, virtual gauges, etc.).

As mentioned before, I like to view RPMs and Karman with peak hold activated, because I like to see how high I rev in gear when tuning and what my max airflow is during that run.
