Confusion HP Score on Dyno
Confusion HP Score on Dyno
Hey, i just got my car dynoed over at AWD Performance Tuning (a relatively new shop in socal - antelope valley.) I currently have a 03 Evo with a K&N Typhoon SRI intake system on stock boost bov with samco hoses.. nothing different about it... i ran the dyno and i only pulled 209AWHP and 237AWTQ... isint it supposed to be higher? ill scan the printouts of the data in a sec... could it be possibly because im leaking boost from the BOV? The thing that made me curious was my peak boost during the whole 4th gear pull was 17.3PSI.. My Air/fuel wasnt too bad, my temps were good... Everything seemed to be normal, but that HP reading seems way too low especially after intake was installed.. please let me know guys
to me those numbers seem about right for an 03 evo on a dyno dynamics or mustang dyno with cali crap gas. especially if you don't have a flash or some kind of tuning devise for your intake.

Okay cuz the shop seems to think that it still shouldnt be that low.. especially when they just did a 05 evo that was bone stock that Ripped me a new one in HP scores.. would it be that my car doesnt have ACD adjustment or something? please let me know.. gonna go to the shop tonight to get all the sheets on the AFR boost wideband etc... My main issue is with the 17.3PSI peak.. isint it supposed to spike at 19 then taper down? if so, could it be i need a new BOV?

If you don't have a flash or SAFC II (or equivalent), those mods may be costing you horsepower. Check out the Stage 1 article on amstuned.com. They lost power with the mods they did b/f they tuned it cuz the ECU just made the car run more rich than before. That might be the case, especially on 91 octane.
the typhoon isn't dangerous. i have had one on my ride for 2 1/2 years now. it does suck though b/c i think it let in too much air into the engine. i put it on and then had my ecu reflashed by vishnu. he and i both could feel a "dead spot" in the power band where it felt like it was bogging when the turbo kicked in. so i got a walbro to counter this, thinking more air/more fuel. it helped a little. i then made a custom box to inhibit the hot engine air from entering the intake and to also restrict some of the intake air. now it works great. a pain in the butt to deal with when i got it. i wouldn't suggest the typhoon to anyone on here. i wish i would've just went with the k&n drop in. our stock air boxes are the best intake setup for our engines. hot engine air into the intake obviously makes you lose power. just think how much our cars run better on cool days. i called k&n and complained about it and they said they were working on it (2 yrs ago).
I had an upper IC pipe, 1G?bov, and a k&n cone filter, and tossed them away (actually gave them away) as it "cost" me HP. I bet if you put the stock airbox back on, you would get higher numbers. The MAF sensor needs to "see" the vortex, which the non-stock air filters can't see. could be a partial leak also, flash the ECU so you can "tell" it there is no VORTEX to be seen. I am getting tired, cant make sence!
