ABC boost spike/taper

I have installed the ABC and the UTEC recently and am having trouble holding boost. Basicallly, no matter what setting I have on the ABC I cannot hold anymore boost than about 17psi. This is on both Map 1 (Stage II) and Map 0. The boost comes on steeply peaking anywhere between 19 and 24 psi (depending on setting on ABC) then falls off almost as quickly to 17psi and holds that too redline.

I am running the UTEC in Open Loop boost control, and haven't changed the map yet.

Mods: UTEC, Tuner XS Pro, Bushar TBE, Helix intercooler piping, K/N panel filter, Perrin Fuel Rail, Defi Gauges (boost, fuel pressure, EGT)

Well, its the bleed rate of the setup.. when it first hits, the volume of air in the hose is greater than the rate it can bleed off, so you get the spike, once it stabilizes it drops down.. You can swap to a different solenoid like the GM or Perrin, and get much greater control over it. I run the GM solenoid and Closed Loop Boost control on the UTEC and can maintain 23psi through redline..

Also make sure that your BOV is getting adequate pressure and you have nothing that bleeds boost (such as the boost solenoid) T'ed off it.. That does make a difference too..

Thanks for the reply Jack....My first thoughts were that it could be a leaking BOV. I am still running the stocker....would that show these symptoms?

I was planning to go with the a CLB setup eventually, guess that it might have to be sooner rather than later. Does anyone tune using OLB? I haven't been able to find too many posts on the subject.

Another thought....I understand what you said about the spike. but once that subsides shouldn't the boost converge on the setting that you have on the ABC...on mine it doesn't seem to matter how many turns I take it out. It just spikes higher or lower, then returns to around 17 psi.

Pertaining to CLB does the turbo xs MAP sensor use the GM sensor as well or is it different...what I am concerned about is the calibration on the sensor.

Yeah turboxs map sensor and GM map sensor calibrations are similar, but you should always go through the calibration steps for the sensors because the size of your vacuum line, the length of your vacuum line, the length and gauge of the wire that runs to the UTEC will all have a slight affect on the calibration accuracy.

Well just went out and pressure tested the system....basically pulled off the intake and sealed it ....then took off the ABC and pumped air into the system till the wastegate opened...all the while spraying a soap solution around all the connections.....couldn't find a leak around either tee or the BOV.....

Did I do this check correctly?

so i guess that I am just bound by the OLB control as Jack had mentioned.....if I don't imediatly go to the CLB control what would be the next step?

Would I set the ABC to spike at 22 psi and then up the solenoid cycle to increase boost after the spike?
