PLX R-500 Wideband A/F Computer, anyone using this?
Just saw this in Turbo Magazine and was interested so I went to their website, heres a link:
http://www.plxdevices.com/R-500_productinfo.htm
The r-500 seems like a good monitoring tool. WB 02, EGT, Knock, and Boost monitoring. 6 Inputs for data logging, 4 analog outputs, Fully customizable LED warning light or shift light, and a few other things. The one thing I found to be pretty cool is the ability to remove your primary narrowband stock 02 sensor, and replace it with the bosch wideband. The controller then takes the wideband o2 input and converts it to a 0-1 volt output that can be sent to the stock ecu to maintain closedloop o2 operation. I would think think there are some benifits to running this way? One, no need to add another bung for the additional sensor ( not really a big deal) and two, I would think using the wideband sensor as the primary output to the ecu for controlling the A/F ratios would result in way more accurate readings than the stock sensor. This would result in more accurate fueltrims, am I correct.?.
Plus it has the ability to monitor knock, egt, and boost pressure. This sounds like it would be a pretty nice addition for the evo. I am getting wideband anyway and have been looking into the knocklink for monitoring knock as well. So to get it all in one would be great. The unit is a bit pricey, but for what it includes I think the price is fair.
Does anyone have any experience with the PLX R-500, if so, feedback would be greatly appreciated. And also if my theory on the control ability with this setup is off, please feel free to correct me.
Thanks

well, it seems like you've recognized many of the features. from a vendor point of view, we can confidently say that PLX units have high quality as every unit marked as tested are actually being tested repeatedly through many processes.
furthermore, R-500 firmware is always updated (manually by re-flash), and during this holiday season, you get free g-sensor so you ALREADY will have onboard dyno for free. if you get the optional EGT kit, then you have the FULL array of R-500 functionalities. you can either check out www.plxdevices.com or www.streetrays.com (search for R-500) for FULL details.
Also, R-300 (the little brother of R-500) has been released and is now shipping. so you can check that one too.
