That is a cleverly veiled comment by Motec to you and you missed it. If you dont know the pinouts, you have no business using our product. If you couldnt install a non plug and play they dont want you tuning your car and blowing it up then blaming them. Jerks they are not, smart forward thinking business men they are (end Yoda phraseology).

They are expensive because of marketing and aiming to a different sector.
AEM is great, as you may know AEM was desinge by the people from GEMS in UK.
If i recall, Ferrari does & possibly Renault. i can't remember exactly but Schumacher did not win so often on driving skill alone...

That's the funniest **** i've ever heard... First off motec is good so that's not the point but to say F1 uses it is BAD. Ferrari and almost the rest of F1 use Magneti Marelli. Their ecus are custom built so most of us we'll never be able to get them.
I'm using marelli myself and it's far from what they make for F1.
The rest of F1 uses Bosch, which is very similiar to the marelli's. Honda i believe is still using their own designs.

And Yes Schumacher did win because of his driving skill!
And Ferrari was the car to beat.

You recall completely incorrectly.

BMW Sauber - Magneti Marelli
Renault F1 - Magneti Marelli
Honda F1 - Honda's own system
Scuderia Ferrari - Magneti Marelli
Toyota F1 - Magneti Marelli
McLaren - McLaren's own system
RBR - Magneti Marelli
STR - Pi VCS
Williams F1 - Pi VCS
MF1 (Midland) - who knows
Super Aguri F1 - Honda's own system

Why would you say that it is a veiled comment? I don't think that's what they're saying at all.
If they don't think it's suitable for non-prefessionals then they can sell it exclusively through tuners. Why would knowing the pinout qualify someone as worthy for using Motec products? I know nothing about tuning, but I can get the pin out. I think it's on evom somewhere even.
I remember the old days, some people had motec in their B18 and B16's and they all needed costly re-wiring so a plug-n-play would be most welcome.
You can blow up your car as easily with other standalone ecu's if that's what you really want to do, so why should motec be more cagey than others like AEM?

I have no intention to flame you, but really I think it's more a case of you reading too much into it. By the looks of things, Motec are not (or have not been) very interested in the 'road car' market. It is clear that price-wise they are not competitive if we're talking only about the features that 90% of people use.

I am happily surprised to see Motec coming up with a plug-n-play unit which indicates to me that they are becoming more interested in the road, or rather non race specific, market. I don't know what Motec USA's stance is on this, but I hope I'm right....
