EGR Removal

Hey guys, after doing a search through the site I still have a couple questions about removing the EGR system. I had my intake manifold off (to replace the gasket) and it was really dirty inside.

Obviously there is a block-off I can get, but I'm wondering....
-How I would be able to completely remove the EGR system? (any DIYs?)
-Is there a particular ecu setup that will allow me to go without?
-What would be the side affects be? (I have a few assumptions).

Oh yea... and where is warrtalon going? Colorado?

In Japan(US too), when they do race cars they remove it... technically I think if you straight up removed it, it would be fine but I think you would get an engine light because the way the vacumme on the system is set up for air emissions purposes. You'ld have to get the ECU flashed for that I think... but if you can get it off, more power to you, I like cleaner looking engine bays. You might get an engine light for exhaust/gas leak.

I hear "dont do it all the time" but I plan to. How does the ecu know whether it is working or not so I can trick it? There are no sensors on the actual EGR valve.... Also, you dont really need a blockoff plate, just pull and plug the vacuum lines I would think.

On the DSM's when we would pull them off we ran a vac. line from one nipple to the other. I haven't looked at the EGR on the EVO yet, but if you used the plugs they blow off the nipples easy on DSMs
