In short, Evo still wins.

My evo IX made 351whp and 334wtq on the mods in my sig which are a little over $3,000.
What kind of dyno did you run on your evo? were you tune or untune when you got that power?

My friend didn't believe me when I told him that mod for mod, the Evo responds better. He thought since he is supposedly making more power stock, that he should have the advantage. Let me just say that I put 3 cars on him and I was still walking away before we shut down, so it could've been much worse if we kept at it. 06 STI vs. 06 Evo9 and we both only had flashes for mods, now he regrets the STI lol.

IX WAGONE,

There are 3 negative aspects I found out during my Subaru ownage.

1) The cars comes equipped with 3 catalytic converters.
2) The turbo is 3-5 feet away from the exhaust valves making it very ineficient and superlaggy
3) The intercooler is tiny (19"x 6.5") and is 6 " above from the radiating heat of the stock TD04 13g turbo

This 3 aspects apply to the STI except the STI has a bit bigger intercooler and at least 2 cats

Just my observation.

Carlos

In simple economics, I spent under 3K and have 330hp with my Evo VIII. My freind has 5K into his 06 STi and 312hp. Dollar for dollar instead of mod for mod is a better comparison. It costs much more to make power with an STi.

[QUOTE=3000ways]Yeah STis/STIs make very impressive torque gains with bolt on mods, but to achieve similiar WHP numbers means a swap of the turbo for an STi/STI, while an EVO can achieve 400WHP on the stock turbo. I like stiguy's comparison, but it must be noted that he could have achieved similiar gains with far less money spent.

THis is very true because a friend of mine has an STI and needed to do some engine work(pistons, rods, etc.) in order get it over 400whp.....i've driven his car before and its NOT the same pull as my car......not worthy of 400whp...

I raced my buddy with an sti (I see you guys put STi/STI whats the difference) and he has intake, and dp. We were PRETTY close, we raced from about 40 and he was at my back doors around 110... he wont go near me now that I have a TBE and a tune. but all in all I must say that the sti sounds a MILLION times better than the evo... my only problem with the evo is the nasty coming out of the exhaust. ( to be honest though i <3 my new quieter buschur with a cat... makes it purrrrr)

I've driven an STI... no comparison to the EVO in stock form. I was more impressed by the 350z. Neither one can touch the Evo, even with light mods. For about $2000 an evo IX can hit 60mph in about 4.2 seconds... how much money would it take for an STI to accomplish this? The sti has crappy loose steering like driving an old truck... even if the STI had comparable suspension and power I could never have gotten used to the way that car steers... unless I become a trucker or a bus driver! Evo hands down!

I've got both cars and I can tell you that the STi will really respond to a tbe and a computer flash. After that it costs a lot of money and you have to start with a new turbo and a FMIC. For serious power in an STi you need to replace the block with a built Crawford block.

A tbe and a flash with a custom tune will produce around 300-310 whp on 93 oct if you are lucky. One thing though is the torque and they do have a lot of it.

The Evo IX on the other hand will produce about 330 whp from a simple flash and a tbe. After that you can add cams and cam gears for close to 400 whp. The amazing thing is the price difference between the two for mods. To get a tbe and Cobb Stage II which will yield you about 275-285 whp it will cost you $1,500 to $1,800 depending on the exhaust and whether or not it's catted. Then add $300 more for a custom "Protune" which will raise the power to 300-310 whp and you are looking at $2,000 total.

We all know what $2,000 can get you in Evoland! A car that can rip the crap out of almost any car on the road.

Can we get somebody here who knows Subies? I know people with custom flash that hits 320 whp. Just look at its displacement!
