What is the max safe EGT(centigrade) for EVO IX MR
I own a 2006 EVO IX MR and would like to know the max safe EGT(Centigrade) at wot/23-24psi? Greddy EGT, probe located post turbo 2" below turbo in dp.
Currently running at WOT in 4th-6th gear/23 psi, EGT reading is 780(c), A/F 10.0-10.5
Sked to get another ecu reflash due to some new mods since first flash.
Mods after first flash are:
Walbro 255lb pump
Invidia o2 housing
3" cat delete.
MODS:
3" Espilir TBE with 3" cat delete/o2 similator
Invidia o2 Housing
Injen cai with uicp
walbro 255lb pump (intank)
Greddy Profec B Spec II Boost Controller
Greddy Turbo Timer
Sun Auto Hyper Ground System with Hyper Voltage System (MR)
Greddy 30psi Boost Gauge
Greddy EGT
AEM Wideband A/F Gauge
Espilir lowering springs
Custom ECU Reflash, Axiom Motorsports Tacoma, WA (Moses)

Eh.... hard to say because of your probe location. The turbo affects the temperature non-linearly..... BUT from what I have seen on some diesels, there's roughly a 300F temp drop across the turbo. If you use that assumed 300F/~170C, then that puts you around 950C which is okay I believe. As far as the turbo is concerned, I think 1000C is about the safe limit, and 1050C is really really pushing it, i.e. you don't want to go there; that's from some numbers I've seen at least but you should do your own research.

what is that to F ? i have on occasion hit 1400 F, its rare, and usually only when im doing 3d gear pulls for tuning but it cools right back off... my probe is in the same location because the Tanabe DP comes with a bung already
like already posted, it's hard to say since it's after the turbo. Pre-turbo and a street tune, I'd say 880 C max. 780 C after the turbo should be right on the ragged edge of safety.
tSherrif,
My honest opinion and after using the EGT gauges for a few years is that the reading of the temp is a very subjective aspect. The gauges does not read the temperatures in a timely matter. You can drive the car hard and the actual reading takes seconds to reach the max hot temperature.
I am not sure about you but I have blown 2 4G63s engines in a blink of a eye and that is excatly what I am trying to demonstrate. The EGT gauges are cool and what not and they do show you the temps of the exhaust gases but in reality that is far from accurate reading plus they don't provide you with the info in a timely matter.
Everybody takes the reading from the header but inside of the combustion chamber is a different history. I never considered reliable the EGT for that matter but off course this is a very arguable point.
I personally no longer use the EGT because I think if I am blowing something is too late for the gauge to indicate me that I am running "too hot".
By the way, I had the same Greddy EGT gauge you are reffering to.

Thanks Carlos. So would you say my AEM A/f wideband is more accurate then? It is located pre-cat and has measured 10.0-10.5 at 23psi in wot.
Before I changed my fuel pump to a walbro 255, the O2 housing, and Cat delete, it was 11.5-11.7 at 23 psi.
I believe there is more power to be had as soon as I get it customed reflashed and bring it the a/f back to 11.5.
Do you think 24-25 psi is ok on 92 Octane if my a/f indicates 11.5-11.8?

check for knock.. leave knock control on.. check for timing pull.. and i'd be a puss and run 11.0.
but thats just me..
