e manage or ultimate for Evo9

Hello. I was thinking about buying a E Manage Ultimate but saw someone selling their E manage for a good price. Was wondering if its that much of a difference from the Ultimate, can it correct the engine light when use of a test pipe or BOV, is it good for tuning and it comes with a wiring harness from a 8 will it hook right up to my Evo 9?

Depends on your goals for the car really.. the Emanage does what it's supposed to, I've seen plenty of very fast cars run it. Ultimate lets you what.. run speed density, and change maps on the fly without having to upload from the laptop/programmer?

I'm running a basic on mine... it's not an Evo though but it's been rock steady, and much better than an safc that I see some people run... and when you look at the prices for the basic emanage nowadays it's crazy to buy an safc.

What problems exactly? I am just about to run Ultimate on my car to have speed density. What kind of problems exactly you're referring to?

The e-manage being a piggy back only tricks the ECU and alters signals in/out of the ECU.

If you go with ECU flash, the changes are part of the ecu calculations itself. I'd save your money and flash it, or just get a standalone

My car is flashed already. I need something to do speed density. And choices are MAF Translator or E-manage Ultimate. Stand alone ecu is not an option, not possible to pass emissions, cold start issues, etc... etc... good for track car. I am driving my car not keeping it in garage for sunday track day. I could have stand alone right now if I wanted.
Question was what problems E-manage cause? If any.
I don't see any disadvantages of having piggy back.

I had the E-manage ultimate in speed density setup (the MAF was only sitting in the engine bay so that I didn't throw a "low maf voltage" code or whatever it was, not metering air. It worked until the weather changed. It was easy to setup, you just drive around with the MAF connected and it fills in the map for you. But without temperature compesnation (which may be able to be added I never figured it out) it doesn't prove reliable. It changed from one day to the next. Like say I tuned at 2pm and it was warm out side, then the next morning it would be lean because no temp sensor.

i refer to my experience with my 3000GT :
you have in a MAF 3 sensors : air temperature, barometric pressure sensor and mass air flow sensor.

if you go to speed density or MAP sensor :
-you will need to fix the baro signal to the ECU ! because the mass air pressure will increase or dicrease in fonction of altitude !
so just put a variable resistor to fix this baro signal at 1.00bar ( perhaps with the help of a datalogger )
-then you can play with the IAT sensor ! just let a stock IAT on the engine bay and let the ECU compensate with fuel and/or timing. not that good.
-or buy and put a new sensor like GM part IAT not far from the throttle of your car.
->you will need to fix the IAT signal to ECU with a variable resistor (20°C or 68°F read with the datalogger)
-> use a variable resistor and the new IAT and modify the wiring of the EMU !
then in the parameters settings, chose CH setting + air temperature !
and play with timing and fuels maps dedicated for Intake temp.

this is a picture before and after a wiring modification of my IAT
before, the air temp is read by the ECU and EMU.
after, a fixed resistor is used to fix the air temp to the ECU, and a pull up resistor is used on the EMU wiring to put a new voltage reference.

for some bugs :
just with hardware and some chips dissoldered of the electronic board !
and for me, a bug on my NVCS map that i rewrote in real time and all was ok after this !

a standalone is a best way for sure, but for someone who want to make tuning corrections by itself, a EMu is a good product !
and for piggybacks, just take a look to the Map-ecu2 ! really amazing for the price !
