What should I do for a tune?

I just purchased a 03 evo with hks ti/carbon TBE, and a p2 flash. I just put it on the dyno and its running a bit lean and not making very good power. They said it needs tuning but I was hoping to hold off till cobb released the accessport. What should I do till then?

What reading is telling you the car is running lean and what is the engine putting out in the power department that makes you believe it's not producing good power? Can you post the dyno run? I don't believe you're going to be able to tune the car even if cobb does release the access port. When you have the p2 flash I believe WORKS are the only people able to tune your car.

Peak
awhp 216.7@6250
tq=231.1@3750
max boost 21ps

the a/f is running 11.6@5200rpm then tapers up to 12.2@6300
in first gear which I believe is giving me some poping and a slight hesitation under hard acceleration

Something is definitely wrong in the performance department of your Evo. I would call WORKS and talk to them about the problem; it's much easier for you and them. How many miles is on your Evo?

It has 32,000 on it and has had every service at or before it was due and doesnt have a single sign of any other drivability problems. I called works and they helped me with a few things, but I think I am just going back to stock and goint to get the cobb accessport.

not to say that COBB isn't a good company but why would you want to go with COBB rather than get your P2 reflashed?

Exactly.

WORKS is to the Evo what COBB is to the Subaru as far as tuning.

Nothing against COBB because I will be going with them shortly for my 2007 STi in 1st quarter of 2007, but WORKS has been tuning the Evo for longer than anyone for the Evo. I had NO REGRETS on having the P2r flash on my 2005 Evo and the WORKS TR-340 kit on it.

The only reason I would say go with Cobb is if you would like to have switchable maps for valet, economy, 93 Octane, or a race map for the track.

With WORKS there is no option to do that unless you want to have them flash the ECU for a 93 tune, then dump the ROM via ECUFlash, send it off to have it flashed for 100 Octane and dump that ROM via ECUFlash, then you could switch on the fly with a laptop via ECUFlash, but that's alot of hassle.

If you want an on the fly switchable tuning solution go COBB, otherwise if one good 91 or 93 Octane tune is what you want then go WORKS.

A huge reason that I am going with the cobb AP is cause I live just around the corner from a reputable tuning shop that can make me custom maps for a very reasonable price. Also with the AP I can make several maps and easily switch them in car. For instance I can have a race gas/pump gas/stock/valet friends and family ect ect.

You can acutally pull your p2 flash map using ecuflash.

But can you get a custom tune with it? Also can you have several stored maps for race gas and stuff?

you can pretty much do what ever you want. DD maps, race maps, valet maps, high oct maps, etc.

i have about 15 different maps on my laptop. most of them i just tweak here and there. also, once you have the program you can download the map you have on your car and send it to Dynoflash and get a Eflash to start you off for 40 bucks
