Not enough boost

Guys I'm new at this evo thing. Just got it a month ago. I just got a used utec. The problem I'm having is that after everything was installed the boost is only hitting 17 psi. I have a turbo back exhaust so I'm running the stage 2 map from turbo xs. The problem is that when I back that screw out on the boost controller thing it reaches 17 psi and stops. Even if I back it out more it only goes to 17 psi. I should be hitting 22. what is wrong.

First are you running open or closed loop boost? Also, have you messed with the boost map? What values are in the boost map?

If you are using that pathetic little UTEC ABC ball and spring boost bleed off valve that they supply, you can develope those kinds of issues.

I put a Hallman in place and the boost issues went away.

BTW:
Another issue when trying to use the closed loop feature is the Evo stock electronic boost control solenoid (ebcs). Most guys trying to run closed loop boost on the UTEC have replaced the stock ebcs with either the set up that MalibuJack describes (rigged GM part), or the Perrin model for an easy replacement.

Make sure you have the 1.7 filmware and check your boost duty cycle. If you have a 05 your giong to need a dyno and someone to tune it for you.

Did you ever mess with your vac lines to your turbo. Make sure you still have that little ball in the vac line. couple years back I ran into the same problem when ever I increase the boost nothing happened later i found out that the ball was missing and went with an apexi avc-r for boost setting. Hope this help a little.
