Tuning Schools

Hey Gang, I'm interested in learning a little about tuning and such. I'd like to be able to take some classes and learn a bit so I can end up doing a little tuning on my car (eventually). I'm aware of EFI university, but was wondering if there were any courses that were comparable, say in FL. Any recommendations? I have done some searching, but have turned out negative results. I've started to read up on all this, mainly because of curiosity and because I realized I didn't know that much about it.

EFI University does classes in Florida, but there doesn't seem to be any there for the rest of the year at least.

Greg Banish also does classes, there seems to be one coming up in Orlando in december.

They are, but i dont think they do "tuning." The one in FL is the one that builds hot rods.

If you want to teach yourself try looking at the megasquirt project and forums. Lots of info there.

Do not go to UTI. Good education if you make use of it, but they do not teach you how to tune. I new how to tune better than my "Instructor" during the street legal performance class. They had a 96 GST with a cat-back, intake, bov, boost controller, fuel pump, and a V-AFC. The GST made 190HP to the wheels with those mods. I messed with the V-AFC, and got the car to make 210HP+ to the wheels.

only go to UTI if your parents like spending money and you dont care if you learn anything. i own a performance shop in socal (about 2 blocks from UTI) and most of the kids from UTI end up moppin the floor, because there not ready to work after they graduate. unless they take specialized dealer classes with a way higher tuition.then they go to the dealer and change oil. and it only cost them about $20-30k

Efi101

I've recently came back from taking the EFI101 class here in Southern California. Good background information that helped me make sense of some of the stuff in ECUFlash... I came back made a couple of runs and was able to figure out what to adjust correctly to eliminate knock that I had in some of the ranges.

The class focuses on load based dyno tuning which was pretty cool but kind of needed an ECU that you can modify on the fly...

but the bottom line was that I now *have* to have an AEM.

I recommend the class if it is in your area and you want to know more about what makes performance for a tune.
