Why Lower Boost on Alchy Than Race Gas?

I recently visited a well respected tuner in the GA area to get some insight on the tunning he could provide me w/my current setup (FP3065, 750cc injectors & all supporting mods, stock bottom end w/52k mi). I'm still debating between aclhy or race gas but when i asked about both these options he said if i were to use the meth/aclhy injection he would tune for about 25psi and if i were to use straight race gas (110 leaded) he would tune for about 27psi. Maybe somone more knowledgeable could explain this rational to me. I see most 3065 guys running between 26-33psi w/both meth & race gas. Why tune for only 25psi on meth? Why not 30psi on race gas? Is it for safety margin w/the mileage of my engine? 25psi just doesn't seem like enough to really play w/my turbo

it sounds like your tuner is being very conservative on both tunes. Regardless, you won't be able to run as high a boost on alky/pump gas as you will on straight race gas. Race gas is going to offer more knock protection and higher boost levels than alky can.

Correct, i didn't have a failsafe at the time. But even with one he wouldn't boost it as high as he would w/race gas. He also said he likes to tune conservative, especially being that it's a stcock block w/52k mi and a DD. With the cost of finding a failsafe for my SMC kit & getting it setup, i figured it be best for me to just sell it and instead get a race gas tune (110 leaded) since we have it readily available here at the pump. I believe he's more favorable towards race gas.

i would be apprehensive of tuning your car aggressive as is. If the pump fails and he has high boost + a very aggressive tune ...bye bye motor. I would invest in a good failsafe a get the true benefits from the meth. I have a the zeitronix setup. You can look at the Aquamist failsafe...it can be incorporated to you SMC setup.
Race gas, turn up boost...tune aggressive map. Go home.

I had looked into the few failsafe solutions already & felt it'd be easier for me to just run race gas which is why the SMC kit has already been sold. I agree w/the more agressive map on 110 but he said he wouldn't want anymore than 27psi which i think is still kinda conservative for my turbo.....I'd personally like to see it on 29-30psi....

It's a FP3065. I'd like to go to Buschur which is where the turbo came from but is about 6-7hrs from me & my current tuner is only 2 1/2hrs away. I'm In Knoxville, TN. I've heard of Topspeed in Atlanta but don't know much about them...

Topspeed are good tuners and have produced impressive results according to members on the boards.

I'm glad that I can tune my car myself. Its cheaper + lots of fun....Knowledge is power.
