Map sensors
Hi, i have following question : i have a 2005 evo8 MR spec. and wonder if i need
a new map sensor if i want to have boost upto 1.5 bar ?
A company told me that a US Evo will need a new 3 bar map sensor ?
Can anyone confirm this ?
And which /where can i get one if needed (still stock ECU)

Well, you likely have a Euro spec Evo which I don't think has a MAP sensor to begin with.
Either way, the computer runs mainly from a Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor located just after the air intake box, so having a 3-bar MAP shouldn't matter. Many people are running 22 psi (~1.5 bar) or so with the stock USDM MDP sensor which only measures around atmosphere pressure (~1 bar).
So no, you shouldn't need any new sensors to run 1.5 bar. You will need a tune though to sort out fuel and timing for the new boost levels.

Hi, thanks for the info. It is a US spec car though.
I know i will have to get the ECU remapped, i am still looking for a affordable
tuner or programmable ECU.
In germany you have almost nothing/no one for the Evo.

Well, as I said, you don't need to upgrade the stock MAP/MDP since it isn't really used to monitor airflow, at least in regard to tuning.
Good luck with your mods. There are many reputable tuners on the boards here that can tune your stock ECU via e-mail. All you need is a laptop computer, a cable to communicate with the ECU (around $85 US) and a couple of free software applications.
