MAF sensor problems!

So the story goes like this, i just put in one of the K&N cone filters with the MAF adapter that replaces the stock air box in my Evo 8. The install was fairly easy, how ever now i am having some electrical issues. After the install, when i turned my car back on, the service engine light came on and stayed on, which i half way expected. The real problem is that now my car hits the rev limiter at about 4500 rpm in all gears. I figured that the sensor that goes to the air filter just needed to be reset some how, but after hours of searching forums and my service manual, i couldnt find anything that was really related to my problem. Does anybody know what is going on with my car or has anyone encountered this problem themselves? Any thoughts on how to fix it? Hpefully i dont have to get my whole ECU reflashed. Thanks for any help.

that seems more like a fuel/boost cut to me. which is not good. so if you're still having the problems dont hit it.
