Will I need a wideband for my planned setup?

So Im planning on doing just a few mods for my evo, Im planning on just getting some 272 cams, turboback exhaust and a tune. Now I know Ill need a boost gauge, but will it be necessary to get a wideband with this very mild setup?

thanks

A wideband is always a good idea when any mods are done, especially the ones you are looking at. They are not expensive as they used to be, you don't have to have one but when you ruin your engine you will wish you would have had that $250 gauge. IMO

Before anyone attempt to do some DIY mods, a wideband is a most. The only mod that does not require a wideband is replacing your air filter for another OEM type. Anything after that, I would not do it w/o a wideband.

Just my 0.02!

Yep, get a wideband. Your tuner will be able to do a better tune. I highly recommend Chris at Mellon Tuning if you are looking for someone to do your tune.
He did a great job with my EVO.

thanks for the mention Dan!

to the OP, having a WB02 ensures the tuner has the best data possible to work with and if you get a gauge for it you can monitor the situation at all time. I've caught my car going lean a few times due to hose from the fuel pressure regulator blowing off under high boost. The wb02 gauge saved my engine.

Did anybody else notice that he has a IX? Those 272's are a waste of time. If you're looking to do cams on a IX then I would go with GSC S2's or FP4R's. And a wideband isn't a must if you're using a professional tuner because they have their own. On the other hand it's the single most important gauge to have next to Boost.

Whats wrong with the M2s? I don't plan on upgrading the turbo.

What cams would you recommend? I want to keep my stock valvetrain.

I agree with this. If you get a solid tuner then you'll be fine cuz they MUST have their own in order to tune properly. But afterwards a wideband is a nice-to-have but necessary IMO.

I plan on getting one soon but it's more for peace of mind than a necessity. I'm a little more modded that what you listed and I've been fine on a street tune for months.

Did you say 272's or M2's? Either way I don't think they're aggressive enough to give you "bang for the buck". Some people have said that the stock IX Mivec cams are like 272 copycats.

I said 272s in my original post but I was referring to the M2 cams.
