Tuning a stock evo

This is more of a curiosity question and I tried searching but nothing really came up. Has anyone ever re-flashed a totally stock VIII or IX? Are there significant differences in HP, Torque, MPG, etc? Waste of time and money?

Just curious...

I stated in my original post I tried searching. Help me with my search at least: I tried "tuning a stock evo", "no mod tune", "stock evo tune", "bone stock tune"....

you will see signifigant gains from a tune on a stock car! ~ 50hp/50tq and you will also see slightly better gas mileage!

It's absolutely worth it with no mods, but if you would browse/search the forum, you would find that out. My evo (stock, with a boost leak) peaked at 17.5 psi and tapered to 13.5. You can up this quite easily to 22 or more with a bone stock car. Given, doing just an intake and exhaust will do wonders since turbos like to move that air

My IX bone stock made 254hp/257tq, after reflash and a little wastegate adjustment, I made 289hp/305tq.

Without a doubt woth it. Even more so with the addition of a $100 boost controller that can easily be put back to stock. The only problem is that once you start modding you usually only stop when you run out of money

no difference, it was just a question. I would rather deal with someone local that's why. I'm your neighbor by the way, I live in Merrick. I'm sick of getting 16 mpg and hoping to get a better response from my turbo. Once I have the scratch you might be seeing me.

i'd vote for skipping the boost controller and use ecu boost control (not sure you even have to swap the stock pill out for a stock evo). and you are indeed correct that lack of money stops the modding process most of the time haha
