Load % problems on a 2g with Evo 8 ecu swap...

I have a problem that I can't really solve and I could use a little insight to figure out what's going on. My friend has a 2g eclipse that we swapped an Evo 8 ecu in that currently runs an EDM rom (99270000 I believe) so there are no issues with CAS codes. He also decided he wanted to run a 3.5" GM maf in a blow-through setup in conjunction with a MAFT meant for a 2g eclipse. Well, I thought I was getting somewhere with the MAFT settings tonight, but all that hope was crushed when I took a look at load % at idle and when I lightly got on the throttle to raise rpm. It started out around 30% load, spiked a hair, and then dropped...to under 10% at times too. Every time I would hit the throttle, the maf hz would go up and conversely the load % would go down. I thought there may have been a problem with the gm maf, so I swapped his stock 2g maf back on for a quick test...but no luck, same problem. Does anyone have any idea why the load would drop off like that? I know it won't raise much, but even on my Evo it tends to raise a little bit.
