New Intake = Tuning right?

I'd like to invest in a new intake and maybe UICP & LICP. I heard tuning is a must. What is the most cost effective way to do this?

EMS (ouch $$)
Local Shop ($300 - $400?)
Software & Cable for computer?
Ship something out?

Thanks in advance!

yes you need a tune, an evos stock map does not function well with an intake.

get a tune, open source dyno tune, mail in flash, etc.

look into mellon tuning or 4wheel slide tuning if you want a mail in.

or if theres a good shop by you throw her on the dyno and tune it.

Yes, tune is a good thing to get with those modifications. Do you have any other modifications (i.e. tbe)? Because the exhaust is the first thing that should be done. Look into Mellon Tuning, they give you instructions on what you need to send them in order for them to devlop a flash for your specific mods and car. If you go the dyno tuning way, look into a mbc while your at it and pump up the boost a lb. Also, a walbro 255 fuel pump. Those two mods are cheap and will help you gain now. Think about this, almost after any mod you will need a tune so why not do as much as you can each time. Just my opinion. Best of luck!

tune after new airfilter?

since the stock evo IX runs a bit rich, is a tune really required after you install a drop-in filter? say a K&N filter..?
