What are the Pros and cons to ECU base boost?

I have a MBC (forge) and am thinking about converting to ECU based boost opinions?

Does ECU controlled boost correct for changes in ambient temperature?

There's a lot, especially if you're really into tweaking the stock ECU. Tephra, mrfred, and others have come out with some amazing improvements for it that allow you to:
  • Hold boost better compared to a MBC
  • Dial in based on load OR based on psi if you have a 3bar MAP
  • Integrate with map switching so you can flick a switch and run different boost levels
  • Integrate with meth failsafe without need for a mac valve
  • (new) dial in different boost profile for each gear
  • (new) auto-adjust based on IAT (so you don't overboost in cold weather)
  • (new) drop boost to wastegate pressure on high knock (configurable to whatever threshold you want)

Not to mention it COMES WITH THE CAR!

As far as cons, the only one is that, unless you're using map switching, you need a laptop to make any changes.

Yes, it is safer.

The risk is still there (just like it is with a MBC) that you can set the boost too high and cause problems, but at least using ECU based boost control, it will attempt to auto-correct if you exceed the limits you define.
