DIY trying to tune a standalone programmable ECU

have a couple of books on engine management but no one gives a blow by blow account of the process of tuning. Any recommendations? books or online?

Also what is everyone's favorite dyno shop in the Western Washington area that rents out dyno time on a load cell dyno?
