New guy.. looking to pick a few brains

Hi guys.. i bought an 03 evo 8 a few months ago... I really did not get much back ground on the car , except for that it had been sittin for several years.. had a few both ons and a hole in the block..

I buy the car .. spend weeks just cleaning before i buy a motor.. the motor was a nightmare .. was told it was low mile... long story short i needed to rebuild it completely before installing it.. i drive it for 1 day.. and i notice that it breaks up horrribly when it gets into boost... so take it back to the shop.. we swap plugs, maf, and pull out some fuel computer harness that was just there...

So we take it for a drive and Yahtzee... it runs like a champ.. pulls hard and strong all the way through... so as we bring it back in we give it one more hard run.. and at about 6k the motor lets go.. detonates a piston , and sends a rod through the block in the same exact place as the original motor.

new shortblock came in on weds.. new bearing and rings install, and we are planning on fireing up the motor on monday.

SOOO... I have a few questions, is the number one cyl notorious for this? Or do i just have some strange coincidence that 2 blocks have broke in the same place?

Next.. I had the ecu checked, and there was a flash on it.. but so aggressive as to explain the damage...

the motor is stock build, stock turbo, stock boost... gt spec mani, k&n filter, greddy fmic, down pipe and exhaust... And now has a stock mail order style ecu flash on it.

My main concern is that i am going do the smae the thing to the new block due to an underlying issue that my untrained evo did not detect...

I have alot of car knowledge, but please dont assume i know anything evo specific..

Any suggestions , questions, or info you could provide will be great...

Take it to a local shop that specializes in tuning Evos, like http://www.ttp-engineering.com/contact.html

You need to bring us the car, have us check it out and we can even put a stock map on it for you.

If you are replacing engines without replacing the oil cooler, you will continue to screw up every engine you put in it.

Send us a PM, email or call us at 407-475-0010 and we will walk through the car with you. Tell you what is has, what it is missing, if your ECU is modified and give you a stock map if necessary.

We also have both built engines and factory engines IN STOCK!

Keep us posted.
