I have diligently searched the web for hours and constantly read about ECU Tuning. However there are some very fundamental questions which I have not been able to find the answers too.

Generally speaking, the only way to tune a vehicle that has OBD II I must use a reflashing tool. However as I read throughout many threads and websites I noticed that certain programs that allow you to modify the ROM (ECU Map) is not compatible with all vehicles. So in theory if I wanted to open an ecu tuning shop must it be a car specific tuning shop? or can I the one program that lets me modify the ROM with other cars??? I was confused because when I was learning how to modify the ecu it seemed very simple: You have a program like EcuFlash, and OpenEcu, plug the obd connector from the obdII adapter to the laptop and flash the ROM file, etc. But the program EcuFlash is only compatible with certain cars.

So basically if I want to flash a wide range of OBD II cars Ecu. Do I need multiple software programs to do that? How would I go about doing it and what items would I need to have.

each model car will have a different flash technique.

so as a shop owner you will need to be familiar with a bunch of different tools...
