Fuel cut??

Hey Guys, I bought my evo 8 about 2 months ago, I installed a bost gauge and it was pushing 16pounds, kinda low right?? I read that it is supposed to be 17-19?? anyhow I bumped the boost up with a mbc to about 20-21, no tune...yet, anyhow at 21 pounds peak at wot full boost it cuts out hard, is this the fuel cut?? I am assuming this is. What exactly causes it?? Running lean?? running way to rich?? I know they are extremely rich factory, and was told that 20 pounds I will be good til I get it tuned. What do you guys think?? at 19 pounds I run into no problems whatsoever. Thanks for any input.

I seem to recall there being a high-load parameter in the tune that protects against running too much boost (its been a little while since I did my tuning). To get around this you're going to have to modify the tune. Keep in mind, the engine is protecting itself so be careful of removing safety features (I'm reminded of Chernobyl where they turned off all the reactor safety protocols for a generator test...and promptly blew themselves up).

Check out the sticky article "how to tune an Evo", get a tactrix cable, and have fun.

Raise your boost limit to your appropriate load curve You don't have to remove the feature, just bump it up to what's good for your car. You can run higher boost and it will still cut at what you set it to. Stock on the left;
