Is there any diffrence between earlier & later evo knock sensors ?

Going to install VIII ecu in III and some say that early evos' knock sensors are deaf for newer ecus
others say earlier sensors count too much knock after swapping with newer ecus

Is there any difference in sensors' calibrating and if yes, how to calibrate evo III sensor for VIII ecu ? or all the way I have to change sensor with newer one

Any help would be greatly appritiated
