Noob tuning question

Well currently I have a catback, bov, and filter. I am getting tuned next week. Now question is after I start adding more mods such as a test pipe and downpipe and mbc when should I get tuned again? Also am I going to need anything when I get tuned? SUch as any gauges or cables? Thanks.

If your gonna be adding those mods pretty close to each other (time wise) I would wait till I had all 3. Otherwise I wouldn't worry too much about the test pipe and down pipe. I mean it will affect the tune and how the car drives but the one that could cause some issues is the mbc. IMHO

I would get a boost gauge and a wide band. They are nice to have, for tuning purposes as well as diagnostic purposes

Well my main reason for tuning now is that I am getting engine overboost and am constantly hitting fuel cut. Do I need the gauges for them to tune it? I have them but they are not installed yet.

No need in really having any gauges as long as your car can log boost and afr. I don't have gauges installed but have a 3 bar map sensor for boost and an lc-1 that can be logged with the tactrix cable in evoscan.

Well I am going to get it dyno tuned. Do they have the tools that can log that? Or do I need the gauges? I have a tactrix cable but no boost or af gauge.

They should have be able to log both. They will put a wideband sniffer in your tail pipe and hook a boost sensor up to one of the boost lines.

Personally I would go with ecu controlled boost. Something along the lines of a GM 3 port or GrimmSpeed 3 port. They cost the same as a MBC

I have never heard of any electrical problems with ecu boost. The car comes factory with ecu boost.

+1 on the Electronic Boost Controller....I replaced my MBC with the GrimmSpeed one and I love it.

With the correct tune...your boost will come on stronger, hold higher to redline, and you can have different boost levels in various gears....everything is better

The GrimmSpeed unit plugs into the factory harness...completely plug & play (if you're getting it tuned atleast, not sure what it would do if u just plug it in).

What electrical problems are you talking about? Worried it will fail?

Whatever you do, do not just plug in the GrimmSpeed and go. If you do you will have some serious boost that could damage the car. You must turn down the wastegate duty cycle quite a bit and then raise it bit by bit until it reaches the old boost level.

There you go....figured that would probably be the case and you would overboost at stock duty cycles.

It's like a 5 minute process to install it....you just unplug the factory unit and plug the Grimmspeed unit in....you can do it right before getting it tuned.
