Budget ECU for evo 9 GSR

Hi all. Am new to this forum. Would really appreciate your help and suggestions to buy an ECU for my EVO that has most of the features but not that heavy on the wallet as well. A friend has suggested AEM EMS2, but its quite pricey. The car is totally stock. Just an aftermarket pod filter and thats it. In terms of future mods, i dont plan on anything to big. Max i would go is IC piping, TBE, and probably headers. I want to keep this car as stocks as possible, just want to enjoy it on the streets.

Any suggestions on some mods are most welcome.

But mainly at the moment, I'm looking to get and ECU asap.

Thanks and cheers!

The stock ecu is all you'll need for your goals.

There's no reason for you to upgrade to an ems. Tune with the stock ecu.

What everyone else said.....the stock ECU in your Evo is very capable and way more than you need for what you're looking to do. Just do some research on EvoScan and ECUFlash

No offense but your friend seems clueless. Stock ecu, evoscan, and ecuflash is more than you'll ever need

thank you all for the suggestions...the following messages are coming up when ever we try to connect.

does this mean the ecu is probably locked or password protected or something??

sending init sequence 1 (0001)
sending init sequence 1 (0003)
sending init sequence 1 (FFFF)
no response to any known code
interface close

Drive your car a bit or hold the RPM's around 2-3K for awhile to make sure the battery is topped off.

I have no battery/charging/parasitic draw/starting issues with my Evo 9 but for whatever reason, my ECU will not connect unless my battery voltage is above a certain threshold.

I doubt that the ECU has been locked. Are you using a third party CANbus scanning tool or evoscan and ecuflash ? Doesn't look like you're establishing ECU connection. Do you have a tactrix 1.3u or 2.0 ? Most of the time issues like this are all in the laptop setup.

this may sound dumb, but you are doing it with the car switched to on, and the flash connector plugged in right?

Lol hey I've made that mistake so many times it's laughable.

haha..lol..no..not that dumb!

Yep its Tctrix 2.0. Goin to change laptops and try it next. Will keep you posted.

At the same time a mate is upgrading to AEM INFINITY on his racecar so im mostly going to take his old AEM EMS V1 and get it on my car.

Nothing wrong in a second hand ecu right?

Only thing wrong with a second hand ECU is if there is something wrong with it.

There is really no reason for you to use the AEM EMS, you will get marginal gains (if any) with it and you're just making tuning your car way more complicated than is needed.

As multiple people have told you now, the stock ECU in your Evo will not be a limiting factor till your car is heavily modded.
