Can Utec be used to log base fuel and ignition maps ?

At the moment I have my ECU reflashed but I am not very happy with it ( seems like no gain for big bucks ). So I am toying with the idea of getting a UTEC with the intention of tuning it myself.

Although I am sceptical of any "improvement" I have gained with the reflash, I am still curious how the reflash has changed the ECU parameters compared to stock. So what I'd like to do is get the UTEC, use that to log timing, fuel anything else that was changed by the flash, and then have the ECU flashed back to stock, and measure the same parameters again to really see what changes were made ( if any ), and if they were for the better ( or worse ).

Is this possible with the UTEC ?

Anybody have any input on what parameters would have to be monitored to make this happen ?

For timing, yes.. for fuel, indirectly, yes.. you need to look at the fuel injector duty cycles.. the problem is you need to go through every possible throttle position and RPM combination in order to get any useful information..

The big issue is how do you know what was changed from a non-flashed car.. you really are only seeing what the ECU is doing at the time its doing it..

The problem is you cannot directly "Download" the base fuel and ignition maps.

Like I said.. there are quite a few variables since you need to log every possible combination of load and throttle position and RPM's.. Not really practicle, but possible..

Now here's the trick.. you'd need to do the same thing with a stock unflashed ECU to see what the difference is.. both can be pretty time consuming.

You can do it pretty easily actually, basically you need two days that are almost identical in temp, humidity, and so forth. Then do several WOT runs with each and see what the changes are. But you have to keep several things as constants or all your data will change or not change based on those factors. Also try using the TXS Tuna to log your A/F ratios on both the runs to see what changes where made to your fuel maps, boost can be measured using a standard boost guage, and timing is the only thing you would really need the utec for.

True, the WOT Maps are the most important to get.. but you can't forget the part throttle tuning.. drivability is also important..
